Hit the MET with the fam today and ran into this on the way out. Sheared the steering gear shaft clean off above the pitman. o_OWe used his winch on the steering arm to keep the wheels as straight as we could then we pretty much opposite drifted our way back. Glad we were able to help him get back to a tow truck friendly area about 5mi or so. Anyone got a steering box?

That's what I'm talking about right there! Really nice PD. Makes me miss my mine.

I did sell all the bike stuff a few years ago. Guy in Westchester got my 81. It was a bit of a frankenbike but it was a legit badass.

I rescued it from its PO. It's been a little neglected and needs lots of little things. The stickers and taillights are high priority lol. I had to run out and try the lockers out :). 97 CE with 138k miles. Let the fun (and nightmares) begin!

Looks like you may need to upgrade the tires as well for those central Iowa Winters! I'm originally from NW Iowa, so I'm VERY familiar with what it can be!

Congratulations and welcome!

(I like my GY Duratracs 285/75/16 for the winter stuff!)

I finally figured out what that big rectangular recess is for in the console. It's a pfeffernuss holder..

So, my family is ethnically German, and I now live in Germany, so my elderly mother sends me a bag of "pfeffernuss", which is a traditional German anise flavored hard cookie for Christmas, "so I won't get homesick". Nevermind that we are literally awash in pfeffernuss here during the Christmas season.

Thanks, mom. You're the best.

Yeah, they're pretty bad. I'm leaning towards bfg at ko2s right now. I was looking at the duratracs, but they're about $50 more, each. Decisions decisions....

The GY Duratracs are a great tire, I have a new set on my cruiser right now. But, they do have a weak sidewall which punctures easily.
My parents just bought a set of ko2's, real nice tire, and a thicker sidewall.
I would say that the Duratracs are a slightly better tire in the winter (softer compound, better grip on ice and snow), but the ko2's are nothing to be sniffed at. If I were you I would buy the ko2's, and with the $200 you are saving you have no excuse not to buy a matching spare.;)

Installed a homemade headache rack and Speski barrier I picked up in the classifieds. Then all the interior lighting and reverse lights got an upgrade thanks to pfran.

Took seat covers off my spare set to send to Frank aka Land Cruiser Heaven aka @FloridaFJ80 to make cloth seat covers. Holy s*** that is a pain in the (edited for language)! When I get my new seat covers I will pay to have someone install them!

Also, not sure if the manual seat slides are a direct swap to you luxury 80 folks. If they are I have a set that someone can have for free. Just message me.

One vote against BFG AT KOs. I'm going Duratracs soon!

Check out Cooper tires offerings. I ran BFG AT/KO's for 11 years and switched to Cooper ST/Maxx and I love them. Being in Ohio I really wanted a nice snow/slush/winter tire that was more on the aggressive side.

I ran Cooper ST/Maxx on my 70 series and liked them. Never drove it in the snow because it was a garage queen...

I was set on the Duratracs but now you have me thinking. I've run BFG AT KOs on my 80 for as long as I can remember. I just am not impressed with them. Don't know why I kept buying them.

well let's see.... installed my new LED lightbar on my Prinsu Rack., added a Blue Sea fuse panel and cleaned up some accessory wiring. The truck is getting all new exhaust today (turning the cats, new magnaflow, and tucking everything up), have a blown rear axle seal that needs to be replaced. Also looks like I have a rear caliper that is seized and will need to be replaced. Good times.

42" LED lightbar on the roofrack. It's a spot/flood combo and between it and the 3 HIDs on the bumper, the front light output is very nice.

On a lighter note I did get out for some fun in the snow on New Years Day near the family cabin. MTR's did great in the snow which was nice since my snow chains are a little short to fit the 35's.

My BIL's LX470 did great in the snow too. He is unlocked but had chains in the rear and was unstoppable.

They aren't, but they're great for fitting other seats onto or lengthening for other manual seats. I've hoarded a few sets just in case, myself. That's a solid offer.

Also sent you a PM, just in case...

If price is an issue, I'd go General Grabber ATs. They are awesome in snow; better than the bfg ats, from what I hear.

Got a mate here that runs the grabber at's in a 315, loves them, aggressive enough for what he wants, but still cheaper than a full muddy. Don't know whether you guys get a different construct cooper to what we do, but people here have no end of trouble with them, tread delaminination, sidewall bubbles etc etc. Can't give the things away
