I can't even get the key all the way in to the lock. It goes in about half way. The VW forums say the key won't work.

The trunk doesn't have a key location. Apparently they switched away from that. Damn German cars!

I'm pretty sure there is still a way to get in with the key. Even though it's mostly selonoids they still have an accommodation for when the battery goes dead.

Howdy all! Long time off-roader, new 80 owner here, and first time poster in this thread. This weekend I added 30m MAF front coil spacers, did the auto up drivers window mod, replaced the high pressure power steering hose, and cleaned all the mud out of my passenger front break rotor (from the previous owner.) Here is my locked Moonglow Pearl '97 on 285 Duratracks with the front bumper I just finished.

Pile of dirt from the break rotor, had to use a cordless with an old drill bit to clean it all out.

Painted the wheels and had 35s mounted.

Gramiviti's has already responding to my email and is shipping a couple gears out to help. What great customer service.

When it comes to customer service Gamiviti is one of the best if not the best. Just got my extra gutter mounts from him.

Took the armor off to have it sand blasted and powder coated. I know, I know...waste of money on armor but not when you have a buddy that does metal work and powder coating (I pay materials plus beer). Gonna go with semi-gloss black.

Do you have a picture of these mounted? I always liked those FJ Cruiser wheels.

Unfortunately the flat style lug nuts don't show up until late next weekend so I don't have them on the truck yet. Did snap this pic though

Are you going to run spacers? I love the look of those rims and have found some local for $400.

No plans to run spacers. I bought 5 wheels and they came with 4 center caps. Having center caps that fit without spacers was one of my biggest requirements on wheels. These fit over the full float hubs with a little smoothing out on the inside of the caps.

Exactly.

It was about 10 degrees when the gear was delivered. I brought it inside and let it normalize for a few hours, then took it to my heated shop.

I suspect, heavily, that the plastic got seriously chilled during shipping and I never let it get back to 70 degrees before pressing.

Contact Gamiviti. I had the same thing happen to me on my 2nd gear using a vise. This was during the summer. The replacement gear went on perfectly.
