-Blue hub fan clutch
-Swapped the ABS pump weeks ago, bled the brakes today (2 person method, no issues at all) Now the ABS light is gone and I finally have properly functioning brakes!
-Airbag light reset. Hope the light stays off 🤞🏻

Possibly next week: new seat motor, drain the special break in motor oil, fresh diff and TC fluids. Find an exhaust shop to re-route the cats above frame.

I can't remember if I shared this or not, but a couple weeks ago my power steering sprung a leak from the hard line section of the high pressure line. Not sure how it developed a leak there, maybe something hit it. In any case I finally got that all sorted out with a new high pressure line.

I parked the truck in my driveway when the leak started and stopped driving the truck. Oddly, I went to move the truck one day and the CEL was on with a code for a misfire in cyl 1. Seemed odd since it was running fine when I parked it but it was definitely misfiring and running rough when I moved the truck. I only ran the motor for about 30 seconds. I suspected the issue might be bad spark plugs so I went ahead and ordered new OEM plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor and crossed my fingers it wasn't something more serious.

I got the plugs swapped out and the plugs didn't look bad in terms of fouling but the electrodes were just about gone so the plug gap was clearly out of spec. Evidence of silt (more on that later) inside the distributor cap.

The new plugs etc seem to have solved the misfire. Truck is now running nice and smooth and no CEL. I'll keep an eye on things and see if anything else seems off but for now I'm stoked that the needed repair was pretty minor.

Back to the silt. Last year we drove through a particularly deep silt bed while on a trip. I'm still finding silt inside the truck, it got into EVERYTHING! One of the other victims of silt intrusion was my Freedom Retrofit headlights. Silt got into the lights through the breathers. I pulled the lights out back in March but haven't had a chance to do anything about it. After speaking with Austin at Freedom Outfitters and getting a bit of instruction on how to clean them out I finally had some time yesterday to work on them. It was my first time opening up a set of headlights and I was a bit nervous about getting them sealed back up properly.
Kinda had to see but the left side of the light has a light film of silt on the black interior housing and covering the projector lens.

But I successfully got them apart and cleaned out and sealed back up with new Butyl Rubber seal from Diode Dynamics. They look much better.

This afternoon I put them back in the truck. Nice to have them clean and back on there. I've missed the awesome light output and light pattern of the projectors. Hopefully I got them sealed up sufficiently that I don't have future issues with condensation etc. I'll be watching for that over the next few months, but I think I got the fixed up right.

I guess as long as the silt didn't get through your air filter than the rest doesn't matter 🤣 seriously though I wish the 80 series had a more air tight cabin for silt and dust.

The air cleaner did it's job. Actually I think the snorkel precleaner was the biggest benefit. But there was silt in the tuna can (most of that was probably built up over a year or two). Everything else was covered in silt.

When I was replacing the plugs it gave me a chance to also check the throttle body and it was nice and clean too. But the silt was exciting.

Morgan's snorkel precleaner did it's job as well haha! He had a small beach inside the salad bowl.

Those are some epic action pics!

Now there’s an innovation the market could use .. maybe a coolant sniffing dog, or a bondo bloodhound

It's kind of funny you say that, when Subaru is having its fiasco with 2.5 l head gaskets in the mid to late 2000s my buddy owned, and still owns a shop. Anytime they had a Subaru come in for any work they would throw their hydrocarbon tester on it and check the coolant for hydrocarbons to see if it was starting to show signs of a blown head gasket. They would then tell their customer look you know your car is going to need a head gasket soon or just giving you a heads up now, they didn't charge them for the hydrocarbon test but because of it he did a lot of head gaskets

Interesting, never heard of that. Smart business move too

You never heard of a hydrocarbon test for a bad head gasket or you never heard about Subarus having head gasket issues

Hyrdocarbon test. All I knew was to watch out for the usual symptoms. Didn't know you could get technical with it. Subarus I've heard a little but I'm no expert. I've had enough friends with built Subarus and the headaches that go with those that I've never really branched into those. Owned a '15 WRX for a year, it was ok. Had a BRZ for a track car, it was ok too. Went back to BMWs for the most part.

12/1996 Moonglow 80 parts truck I am doing some after hours work on in prep for yanking the engine/trans/tcase from it. 460,000 miles on this one!

Body is really nice other than this LHS rear quarter being replaced at some point, professional job though.

You can see some rust creeping on the LHS cargo window. Due to this and the replacement LHS rear quarter, double cab UTE chop on this one! 👨🏻‍🦱🤙

Nice!! I'll be watching the progress on this one. Are you planning to stretch the wheelbase for the ute chop or just run a short tray with the stock wheelbase? I've been considering this myself for a couple years now. I played around with a couple ideas using the stock wheelbase but I think for a double cab chop a bit of a stretch might be better.

Surprised!

Was expecting 1990’s vintage on the plug wires. 😜

Seems it had good maintenance by the radiator, heater valve, brake master/booster condition, OEM oil filter and fairly stock under the hood, un-gankified and blah blah blah. Moss growing around headlights confirms a PNW life! 😂. Never ran this one, perhaps it was loved until the HG let go or BEB or the trans? 🤷🏼‍♂️ See what the engine looks like at tear done! 🧐

Cheers

Yes a 118-124” WB seems best to me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Cheers
