Easy DIY project for those 80 owners that live where the trees never stop dropping their goodies.

Was in fixing the wiper linkage and after cleaning out a ton of leaves and debris decided to add some aluminum screening on the inside of the outer vent holes where wipers sit. Ideally the leaves will sit on top and leaf blower will get rid of them before they drop in.

-Aluminum screen from HD
-Metal tape from HD
-Scissors
-Marker or free hand. I like dry erase so I can wipe off if needed

Will be installed once a gasket comes in.

I took some rubbish to the dump, Truck with half a tank of Diesel and a light trailer (about 100 kg) tipped the weighbridge scales at 3,000 kg.

Heavier than I expected!

A few weeks back i started working on this little neglected '96..

Everything was original from what I could tell. I stripped her down, did the head gasket as PM and today finally found enough time to fire her up.

Just need to set the timing, tidy up a few bits and bobs and take her for a test run.

That looks great, I'm digging the black valve cover.

How'd you go about cleaning and brightening all of the cast aluminum bits, such as the intake plenum and coolant pipes?

The big stuff was bead blasted by the dude who did my cylinder head. The smaller, delicate things were cleaned, etched and painted with POR15 high temp aluminium paint. I admit i might have got a little carried away with POR15 but if you put in the effort to prep the metal the paint lasts for ages.

I finally opened all this:

I got the protector from eBay seller darkwing1788, who promptly issued me a second one after the first one went missing. Both ended up being delivered eventually, so now I got two. Since I don't need two, I figured I'll give back to the mud community a little. If you pay the shipping to wherever you are, I'll put it in the mail. DM me if you're interested - first come first serve. GONE!

Don't forget locktite for the steering stabilizer install. Instructions don't mention it, but I had @Delta VS give me a heads up that the fasteners can work loose without it.

Took a short drive to a nearby lake to see how the baby does riding in the Cruiser.

Side note, anybody else have a hard time getting a car seat securely tightened using these ancient seatbelts? This was my first time trying in a car without the LATCH system and no matter what I tried it felt super loose. I ended up using a tiedown strap around the base and entire seat because I just didn't feel comfortable.

I'm with you. We have the Doona and I don't like how the base is secured in there, at all. I actually prefer to just use the belt across the car seat as it feels more secure than clicking the car seat into the belted-in base.

I always used the center seat at that stage. Put your weight on the seat with your knee and then cinch it down. It’s not going anywhere.
