Battery Tender

Got rid of the PO's battery blanket and added this battery tender, to help with the drain my GSMauto cellular remote switch and Webasto put on my starting batteries after two weeks of sitting in the parking lot at the shop, while I'm at work.
Gotta add that aux battery soon

No!!!!!!!!!! You should have waited for the puddle to try, dig out and drive home :flipoff2:

In hindsight, you're absolutely right.

Installed my Speski Cargo Barrier, OEM FJ 80 battery tray and Slee Washer Bottle relocation kit. Next up is the wiring, VSR and switch to complete the dual battery setup.

The Speski Barrier is a brilliant mod. Everyone should have it!

Used my last 90915-20004 (small good Toyota oil filter) and did a tranny drain/refill. Also, I realized yet again I need to tend to a couple of longstanding oil leaks (upper pan arch seal, dizzy o ring, me thinks).

I removed the rear exhaust manifold on my 1FZ while it was still in the bay. Then I went about re-tapping the hole where one of the two studs that connect it to the down pipe was missing. I then replaced all the gaskets and am now leak free and factory quiet again.

cleaned up and sorted the junk and tools in the cargo area.

helped my buddy replace the turbo on the '99 tdi beetle of deep and painful remorse. let him use my toyota exhaust manifold studs and one old m8 bolt i took out of something on the cruiser so he didn't have to argue with rusty hardware.

Poor bastard went to replace the burnt out NEW clutch and found a big old hole in the diff side of the bell housing. Seems sometimes the 02J will throw a bolt, and ARP sells a hardware kit specifically because of this issue that most people use when upgrading to an LSD.

We're doing all this in Roger's garage at his house. Roger builds engines for a machine shop. So, Roger walks in.

"Hey Roger, did you know that Toyota exhaust studs work in Volkswagens?"

"Yes. They are M8 by 1.25"

Note, Roger does not drive anything but 68-72 Oldsmobile.

Then Saturday night i pumped 26oz of valvoline palladium grease into the steering knuckles.

I fixed a rattle that has been bugging me for two years. I couldn't find the F---er. I only rattled on bumpy roads or other jarring situations. I had friends sit in the back on hunting or fishing trips, I took the door panels off, removed the window W/S..... Nothing. Yesterday I said to my son, climb back there and find it and I'll pay you $10. He said, sounds like its coming from under the door.

This morning I find two running board bolts loose...Yeah! I know R/B but my wife uses it sometimes to show real estate. I am having a hard enough time not getting a 470 so I need the R/B.

Still rattle gone, also did the zip tie fix on the mirrors.

I have done the same thing, tearing it apart, looking for a rattle. I am going to check those bolts tomorrow.

Transported boy scouts to/from winter campout. With the PO's help (another scout dad) I learned how to break in using a hotdog skewer after locking the wrong keys in. Came home to find my birthday present arrived! I always wanted a knuckle rebuild kit...

I smartly removed the catalytic converter heat-shields by breaking off all the bolts (doh!), then had to dill out and replace them with stainless! Removed 1/2 cup of rocks that have been rattling and annoying me. Got it all buttoned up and rattle is all gone! Win! Also replaced some weather stripping on Drivers door to keep out cold and noise. Win x 2!

Reached out an hit a repeater that was 42 miles away with new ham radio set up. Wishing I would have tried different power levels to see the impact. Thinking I am going to like this Ham setup for trail communication.

After calling a couple of local installers, and getting quoted north of $750 for the cost, I decided to take a crack at installing my new brown seat covers from Shane. Replacing my front driver's seat has been a long time coming, as every improvement or upgrade I've made to my cruiser over the last year always seemed to be overshadowed by the raging pile of crap that I had to sit on every time I took it for a drive.

Here's the offending party:

Just God awful bad. I've had canvas covers over it for a while now, but it's still hard as a rock and just knowing how bad it looked made me sad every time i opened the door.

I started with the passenger side. Not as bad, but definitely hard and uncomfortable:

This is definitely a tedious process, but not an impossible one. I spent the morning learning a good bit on this one. Here's the after (I still have some additional work to do to finish it up):

Yesterday evening all I had time for was the bane of my existence--the bottom seat driver's cushion. I ordered a new OEM cushion from Shane as well, and it was drastically different from the old one. It also made installation a bit more challenging as well:

Hopefully I can finish the driver's seat back today or tomorrow. My next challenge is replacing the leather on the back of the 2 seats. I know that I've at least seen a picture of someone glueing and clamping to do that process, but I've been unable to find that thread this weekend to see if there's any explanation on how to do that properly. Does anyone know the thread i'm talking about, or have any advice on how to do that?

Big thanks to Shane and those other members who did write ups on how to install. Very helpful. What an awesome product and upgrade.
