in 1999 A Russian Czech Republic Tatra truck with 3 guys up front ran the Vegas to Reno race. The thing did like 28mph through everything.

It is a jeep ZJ, clearly you can tell by the lights and grill. Who knew they looked so impressive without their sheetmetal and unibody. :flipoff2:

Grand Cherokee not sure if that was a ZJ
My ride for the BAJA 2000:grinpimp: and several others

The head lights, tail lights, grill, and frame were Jeep qualifying it for several SCORE classes

Dude!
Don't ever call Tatra a Russian truck. People get shot for saying that. :slap:

Thanks for keeping me from getting shot. I checked and you are right not Russian, Czech Republic.

Interesting also the specs - The Tatra truck we're about to see has an air-cooled, 19-liter twin-turbo V12 with two intercoolers. It makes 540 hp and 1954 lb ft of torque. As good as Tatra engines are, it's difficult to certify air-cooled turbocharged engines to meet American and European emissions regulations.

Tatras are some of the most interesting trucks in the world. Independent suspension, tubular frame, funky engine and incredibly robust.
The independent suspension is not a very refined one, as the wheels travel in an arc pattern.

Kamaz is the actual Russian truck, which people associate with desert races. (Dakar winner multiple times)

When I want to jump I use the right tool for the right job and its not a Land Cruiser YMMV

That's just sour grapes because you don't have a 70!

Of course, neither do I...

Definitely interesting I toured with Robby Gordon and he was all about it and wanted know if it was for sale after the race. Everything is inboard only the tires and axle were exposed.

It was on its way to Dakar after the Vegas to Reno race.

Search Tatra Kolos (813) on youtube. Europeans have some crazy truck races, mud mostly. 6x6 and 8x8

I was on these flats heading back from scorpion bay/San Juanico on day 4 on my xr650. It was super slick back in January. Any chance you stopped at El Datil? Those little villages blew my mind.

Yeah neat drive - probably picked your path carefully with some mud out there!

View attachment 1526531 View attachment 1526530 Ran the Rubicon with Devin, my deceased son's best friend since first grade. He is 21 and a security officer at an AFB near you. It was probably my best trip over Rubicon ever and I've done it many times since 1990. We send youngsters to protect us, so let's do our part to get them ready.
Indeed On the bringing up the youngsters my dad let me walk into Ft Benning with a heavy heart and a bad taste from nam, But I needed it I was a fresh lil SOB and ended up a fastracker topgun and OCS canidate, all ended right after graduating by a drunk kid in a buick riviera. at any rate im planning on hitting the rubicon on my travels Hopefully I can catch up with some rubi veterans that can show me the ropes.
