Lit my engine bay on fire!
(I'll see if I can get pics from a friend)

Was cranking with the distributor wire disconnected to build oil pressure (new cylinder head and its been sittin for a LONG while), and a spark jumped from it.

I had just done this fix:
Charcoal Canister Modification- need help
and I forgot to plug the tank vent line while I was waiting for the paint to cure for a few days.

That combined with being in a garage @ 75*F for 3 days (not much air movement) led to a lot of fumes under the car in on the side of the engine bay.

Thankfully the fire extinguisher was effective and the only damage was melting the wires to the oil level sensor.

Heres a pic of the carnage:

Thank you! The closest thing I could find was the "Plug, Hole" so I was just going to fashion something up.

I don't think that's the one you're looking for if what you showed in the picture was what you were referring to. You MAY need to get something from a salvage yard for that bolt-on cover.

Drove from Todos Santos, BCS, Mexico to Santa Barbara, California.
Did not take a single photo of the rig! Oy!

Sounds like it could be a pinion bearing going out.....I had this happen on my 97' F350...thought it was the driveline...nope ;)

It could be a lot of things. Engaging the CDL and removing each driveshaft then driving each configuration can help narrow things down.

:mad::doh:

Well, that didn't last very long, got a pending code 402 this morning! dang it, back to the drawing board on fixing the darn thing.

OMFG! I can't believe I neglected my baby for so long and yet she still has been so faithful!

Long story short, after talking to @NLXTACY a bit about my 402 code, he suggested I check my brake booster vacuum hose and it as loose like a Thai tranny!!! I cut the ends off a bit and put the hose back on(I don't have a new one handy) and BAM!!! Not more code!!! Hell even my brakes feel better.

I'm such a terrible 80 owner! I must repent and change my wicked ways.:frown:

When I searched the "transmission cover" I found a part that matched the hole. The "plug, hole" is a cover up higher on the housing... I think.

Shout-out to @beno for great service! When I explained my situation he said, "You don't want to buy that from me. Go to this website and order it there. You'll get the product you need at a better price." [Paraphrased. He was much more detailed.] He gave me some great advice, and even did some networking with me as I'm trying to find a job.

Anyone who does that gets my first call when I need something. Thanks Onur!

Installed my KISS drawers from @cruzerDave and tinted the front windows along with a UV blocker on the windshield. Truck is noticeably cooler inside on sunny days. Thanks to cruzerdave for working with me on the height of the deck. I'll do a full write-up when I complete the fridge mount and sleeping platform extension. Love the drawers and the organization!
