The trail is called gold mountain, very cool trail with about 3 little sections of good but not terribly difficult obstacles. Rest of it simply bumpy. That area is full of service roads with great scenery. Btw ther are quite a few very large bristle cone pines along that trail, hidden gems of that trail most people don't pay attention to.

A little wheeling in big bear and hung my diff a couple of times thanks to @NLXTACY 's inability to shoot video and spot at the same time.
It's funny to see my buddy's stock 80 with basic lift kit, at tires and no lockers go through all of gold mountain obstacles first try with practically no tire Spin. I've watch countless videos of different types of off-road vihecles try and try and fail at the very same spot.
Lockers are the best bang for buck improvement you can make to the off road ability of your carI drove my rig from 1997 to 2010 without lockers and wheeled it many places. I just learned how to wheel it without lockers because I didn't have them. It was partly out of ignorance. I didn't realize how much lockers could help until I joined Lone Star Land Cruisers in 2010 and started talking to guys in the club about how to make my rig more trailworthy. Lockers are definitely worth the money. Nothing has made more difference in my ability to avoid trouble. I haven't had to dig myself out of the mud since I installed them. I also have avoided sliding backwards down many steep hills with loose gravel where that would have happened before.
Hey now, I'm from the Midwest. I would never think of running a dually for anything other than pulling/hauling.
Im born and raised in the midwest as well. Im not saying everyone cannot understand what a good Off-roader, just the majority.![]()

I think everyone should learn to wheel without lockers, it teaches you better line selection. It will make you a better confident wheeler in the end once you find the need for them.

So my son borrowed the 97 today while we were doing a roof rack delete on his 94. He pulled in and asked if it was normal to be leaking like that. Any guesses what was spewing? What a PITA that was. Took about 2 hours to change but had me thinking at least a dozen times "how in the heck am I going to do this?"
Just another reason that 3FEs RULE!View attachment 1288380 View attachment 1288378
At the same time it's never fun to be that guy on the trail. The one that has a 1/4 mile of traffic backed up behind him. The one spinning tires for 15 minutes straight, kicking up dirt, chewing up the trail only to have to stack rocks in the holes he just made. There are just some places where unlocked rigs shouldn't be.
