Installed a 2 meter mobile ham radio for better trail communications and because it can't hurt to have a few extra watts of transmit power in the event something goes haywire outside of cell phone range. Conveniently, HRO had the Yaesu FT-2900 on sale, so I pulled the trigger, grabbed an antenna, and went to work on the 60.
Had to remove the OEM cupholders, but this spot worked pretty well and keeps the radio somewhat hidden from view. Besides, I found those cupholders useless unless you're drinking from a juicebox.
Cobbled together an antenna mount using bits I had in the garage. Even got to use the rivet tool I bought for another project! Mounted to existing bolt holes, so no permanent modification of the truck required
Installation went so smoothly, I had time to do a bit of suburban "off-roading" in a new housing development. This has nothing to do with the radio installation, but it was fun nonetheless.
