15.5 hours of slider prep (past two days). :bang:
Finally, i get to install tomorrow. :bounce:

Lessons learned thus far:

(Unless you're familiar and experienced with the product) DON'T USE POR-15! 😤🤯

Or if you do... Figure out an appropriate and functional way to cut through/scuff the shiney layer so your paint/top coat adheres to the POR-15.
I'm not yet convinced my latter treatments have made a good bind to the POR. 😕😒

Circa 9 hours in cleaning, POR prep, and 2 coats of POR-15 each, top and bottom
Then about 5 hours of Ben liner (5 coats top)
THEN 2 cans of Rust-Oleum ....

Now, In about 4 hours I hope to work on the install.

🤣

I did the POR 15 on my bumper, 3 coats. The instructions I had said to use a finger drag test to tell when to apply the next coat. For top coating I used POR 15 self etch primer in addition to top coating. Also said you can apply top coat using the same finger drag test.

Nice. I just ordered my shirt. It looks nice.

I did finger drag between coats, prossibly too thick to boot.
And I allowed overnight cure before topcoating. I tried scuffing the shine off, instructions say 350 grit, I used 220 to partial success and also red scotch brite, but I think :
A: it cured too much for proper adhesion of a different top coat
B: I didn't scuff appropriately or adequately
C: bed liner is an inappropriate next coat
D: bed liner non-adhesion wrecked my final top coated paint such that minor scuffs take it all off down to cured POR @ the bed liner level.

i did not use POR top coating or etching primer.

Lessons were learned in my first exposure/experience to POR process and products. 😑

I had to take a wire wheel grinder to weld on a reinforcement. I really had to put some pressure on the wire wheel to take offf the POR 15. The stuff is definetly tough.

Did you wire wheel the whole thing before your final coat/top coat?
Cut through the POR-15's shine from your 3 layers?

I should've gone that route, or the abrasive wheel (not flap disk)... 😒😖

Installed reese tow power modular brake controller and took our first real trip 360 miles each way from our home north of Seattle to Silverwood theme park in Idaho pulling our RPOD 179R. Our kids and all 5 grand kiddos joined us. WHAT A PERFECT WEEK! Also plugged in a Bafx blue tooth OBD scanner coupled to Torque Pro App and my GX pulled long steep grades in 90+ degree weather with trans temp never more than 12degrees F above coolant which stayed at 195-210 I am a "happy camper" !

I actually bought my GX today so you could say it was a good day! I’m excited to see where this goes. I’ve owned a handful of Toyota’s and love this platform. I have a thing for the 4.7L if you couldn’t tell from my wife’s first gen tundra in the back ground

Good buy, that is one of my favorite colors.

Got rid of some very annoying idle surge with a quick MAF and throttle body cleaning.

Also stuck a mystical MK3 mini blade fuse from down under in the alternator slot (@Vlad suggestion). Runs around 14.5 now!

I recently took ownership of a 2006 Sport. Shortly after the drive home I hit 150,000 miles. It had a nearly perfect Lexus service history. No Lexus dealer within a few hours, but the local Toyota shop said they work on Lexus. I dropped it off this morning for the full meal deal. I have a bunch of Rhino Rack boxes in my garage; just trying to find the time to install them all!

Coordinated with @Lifted for a nor-Colo trail run today.
Moody hill is a good klimb to Crystal mountain, but CM trail is closed now, so we headed back via Rist canyon road (amazing drive and country!)

No, just scuffed with abrasive pad and POR self etch primer. I added a gusset in the hinge area after it was all done. That is the area I wire wheeled prior to welding. Tough stuff.
