Replaced my rear 6.5" mark levinson sub with the skar 6.5 400w subwoofer. Had to use a carbon cutting wheel on a dremel to get it to fit in the factory "box". Cutting with the dremel sucked, took about an hour and a half but fut like a glove when i was done.

I was able to use a pair of oetiker clamps pliers to clip out the bracing in the back of the plastic box to add clearance. They worked perfectly and made a clean and easy job of it. Most of it came out in one piece.

While i had the panels off i went ahead and finished swapping the rear chrome window trim pieces.
It was very easy to do just took a long time to get all the trim out of the way. I used a magnet on a long 10mm socket to make sure the rear window bolts didnt fall down inside the frame.

Feels good to have all new window moulding. The old stuff was pretty tattered and im glad the have the peace of mind im not getting water inside the doors. The prado black trim probably would have looked sharper, but i have chrome door handles, a chrome roof rack, and black/chrome wheels so it does look coherent at least. Not super impressed with the skar but its only 6.5". If i want the real bump ill have to get a 10" setup back there.

I did that too last summer. I also did the 6x9s & 6.5s in the doors. All the speakers were shot when I first got it. I'm not the audiophile, but I liked the results. I just used an angle grinder to get the sub in and I was pretty proud of the fit I got.

I really want to do the DYI drawer system, But I need to keep the space for the weekly trips to the dump and my trash cans wouldn't fit if I put drawers in...

A rear hitch cargo carrier or small utility trailer will rectify that. I have a basic aluminum cargo carrier that has been quite useful for those kinds of things.

Make it so that you can easily take it out maybe in 2 sections.

Taking a gamble on a $150 rhino-rack 270 degree awning. Even has free shipping for july 4th. It seems to be a discontinued product, and its for the passenger side instead of driver side, but i can deal with that vs spending another $400 or whatever

Let us know how well that works. I'm interested. Does it only open to the passenger side or can it be set up to open to the driver's side? The photo shows the passenger side opening, which is not ideal as the rear door would block the shaded/covered area.

Only right side, which i think is the reason it was so cheap. couldnt really justify several hundred more for the driver side to be covered.
