Ige, keep fighting the intake leaks...once you have won that front, then you can get on to adjusting the thing...the idle speed screw should be out all the way to start with, not touching the throttle link tab; it will idle suuuuuper low without intake leaks. after the vacuum is fixed, and you can get it to idle down around 250rpm, then you can set the mix screw little by little. then and only then should you set the idle speed screw to the 550-650 we all know and love. also, if the mix screw is beat up, or its seat is beat, you're not going to dial in any kind of consistent idle mix...
idle speed screw in too far will pull fuel thru the primary slow circuit and bypasses the idle circuit.
but then, I'm sure you already knew these things...
you could always propane that thang and be done fiddling with mixtures and speed settings...
