What did you do to your pig today?

I've also seen several. Believe it was a dealer installed option back then.

Thanks for dropping it off. Dropped the tank yesterday and taking it and radiator to a shop. Gotta wait on a carb secondary diaphragm from napa till Monday.

ground your turn signal buckets;).

Nope, ground's good. It's a broken wire between the right front running light and the fenderwell...so the running lights juice was going in to the turn signal circuit.

That's what I was assuming.

The '71 came with and was stated in a thread here from a few POs back that it was OE.

I might actually have a brand new one of these sitting in my garage that i acquired by accident a few years ago...weird.

Actually found out that the vacuum-shifted 4wd works, we got some snow and I decided to run all my errands with my '70 pig today. Gets lots of strange looks in traffic, like i'm driving a time machine or something. Ordered more parts for it too :)

I drove it until the wheel fell off. Makes me sad, this truck is 35 years old and hardly has a dent on it until I drive it. Loose lug nuts I suppose, though I was sure i double checked all of them. Possibly a symptom of the wheel studs being too short for the aluminum rims on it. I was lucky it happened on a snowy dirt road going slow as I was test driving to see how everything felt. It crunched the front fender pretty good but thats about all.

Well that sucks, luckily only a fender was hurt.

Did you use lug nuts designed for mag wheels?

damn! where in MT are you? Bozeman like the lifted pig you mentioned earlier?

I work in MT May thru October, hibernate in western MD the other half. The company I work for is based out Bozeman but we do work throughout the western part of the state. We are building the CDT just north and west of Butte currently. Years ago we built a trail right outside of Missoula, north of town I can't remember the name now. I lived in Boz year round from '97-04 been trying to get back for awhile now. My wife's under contract for her work here in MD for another year so after that I look forward to living in MT year round. It's kinda of a odd lifestyle especially since I camp all summer.

That's a good question about the lug nuts. I need to double check. I've had mags before with the special nuts but I don't believe the wheels are that style

Kenny Chestnuts,

Have you checked the rotor yet? You might have some damage to it and the dust shield. I would pull the hub off and check the axle nuts, for any play, just to cover all your bases.

Glad you're alright and thankfully not going down a highway.

Looks like the door escaped damage, so that is nice!
Just get a BobM patch panel and fix up that fender.
Test drive? Not yours? Are you going to buy it? What year?

It's mine now and it came with a big pile of Bobm parts. 1978 thats been sitting for the better part of ten years by my estimates. The mice got into it pretty bad and the rad was leaking. I've been going over it and this was the first I got it out since getting it into my garage.
So far:
greased driveshafts and steering components.
changed all fluids
new plugs and wires
Aluminum Radiator
water pump
thermostat
replaced all cooling hoses
removed massive quantities of mouse mess from heating ducts and blower(still can't get the smell out even after scrubbing it all with hot soapy, bleachy water and painting some parts.)
Removed the interior and cleaned
Flushed heater core with acid and removed rear heater.

Next up:
compression test
after market temp gauge
fuel line adjustments
get fan shroud back in place or electric fan
fix rear window

My upper rad hose seems to be possibly under too much pressure and I don't know why. I'm not sure that the stock temp gauge is functioning properly. From what I read it could be a head gasket issue. I'm trying to get this truck back to daily driver status ASAP. I drive it about 5 miles a day to walk the dogs but I need to get it reliable for work purposes. Here's a pic from when we found it and a shot of the new rad. I posted the details how I came to acquire this pig in the new owner registry; basically a guy gave it to my dad and my dad got overwhelmed and passed it on to me.

I hopped into my FJ55 this morning drove 1 mile and noticed the oil pressure dropping. Pulled over and turned off. Called wife to bring 2 qts of oil. After hanging up I noticed oil everywhere on the front he pig. Opened her up and oil was over ever single surface. When i started it just was pooring somewhere out the bottom around the crank then it was slung EVERYWHERE!!

Filled up and drove .5 to local mechanic. Will know tomorrow what is going on. Shop was kind enough to clean oil of the exterior of the 55 till they can determine whats going on.......

Oil pressure stayed up the .5 miles to shop then I coasted to a parking spot. Engine was not even warmed up.

its just a s***ty day....

Hey, nice rad. Looks just like mine. I'm glad someone else is thinking like me. I wasn't sure about welding on the rad. I guess, we'll see how they hold up.

Oh man...

Pathfinder,

Hopefully it looked worst than it is. Could be a side cover gasket, etc. If you threw a rod, type thing, you would've heard it go.

Hang in there!
