How big was the power supply wire for that compressor?
What is its air output?
Looks powerful.
150 liter (40gal)/min, max 8bar (116psi) (well, theoretically). 15% cycle; can operate 15min @ 4bar (60psi), which basically means I can air up all four tires from offroad to tarmac pressure in one cycle. It's the 24V version.
Originally the compressor is designed for free-flow. As I have three connectors (at the back and under each front seat), it needs to operate against a closed system now. So I added a pressureswitch, which limits it to 4bar (60psi).
Rating officially is 25A. I have a 20A fuse in the circuit and it works just fine in this setup; Amps would significantly go up at higher pressures, though.
I used 4mm2 (12AWG) wire, which is fine for 20A; 6mm2 10AWG would however be better.

Eventually, it's a generic Chinesium product. If you look carefully, you'll find the same thing from other brands. The 24V version is less common, though.
Cheers Ralf

I want to fix up a hose system for mine so I can fill 2 tires at the same time. The compressor would feel less resistance since its output would effectively be a larger pipe.

Working on the “ parts truck” bj74.
Bought this truck knowing it ran rough and just trying to get it running a littler better as a beater trail rig

Pulled the head off my 13bt today to troubleshoot a few things:
-lots of blow by
-oil in intake
-white smoke at start up
-misfire
-high egt’s (over 1,000 doing 60mph on flat)
-blueish greyish smoke at idle even when warmed up

Looks like I might have the -multi layer gasket on here? I purchased the Toyota oem multi layer to replace it with anyway.

Unsure if anything else looks out of the ordinary. Cylinder walls feel ok but I’m not an expert. I was thinking about replacing the rings as well but I don’t know of any physical signs up top to see if they are broken, stuck etc..

Swapped out the tail light lenses and bulbs on my FJZ-75 pickup. New lenses and LED bulbs.
If your looking to do the same the running/brake light bulbs you need are red LED 1157
The backup light bulbs are white LED 1156
I left the turn signal incandescent bulbs because I don't want fast blinkers and don't want to wire in resistors

My local NAPA had the bulbs but they charge accordingly. Amazon has double the amount for half the price if you choose to order them.

From my understanding, unless the head boots are way loose, an MLS gasket won’t blow per se. they can leak but, especially on lower boost they won’t blow like the composite ones.

Did you check timing? Spill timing will
Help with running along with cleaning injectors if by some chance they got dirty.

Update: decided to pull the pistons and im glad i did. 2 out of the 4 pistons had broken rings. At least I know why she’s been running rough for the last couple owners. I have brand new rings so I may just clean the pistons up and redneck the new rings after a quick flex hone.

i dont remeber ever seeing that as an issue

@FJBen thanks I was hoping you’d chime in since you know these motors top to bottom.

@bj70bc same. I was expecting stuck rings but wasn’t expecting 4 broken rings.

Photo of her under the knife while my Prado sits in the driveway smirking (it runs perfect).

Check/measure the ring grooves.
When I tore apart my MG’s original motor almost every ring was cracked and the bits were chewing up the grooves. How it was able to hold fair compression is still a mystery.

You said it has an MLS? Was this from a blown head gasket? Overheating can cause ring damage. That and it could be just a tired engine.

@FJBen tough to say with something this old. She’s got a lot of km’s (300+) and a few owners. So could be all of the above. She’s a good truck though and just trying to squeeze a little bit more out her.

Could be worn ring landings as well, who knows the life it’s had.

Im about to tear into my water leak. So much fun.

While still falling short of the @FJBen standards of photography, these plantation roads make an attractive backdrop. 😊

Charles I need to get with you for some pointers to those red dirt roads. I've got a bicycle that will just exactly fit them.

Southwest Georgia has miles of dirt roads crisscrossing through the numerous plantations. 😊

Had some spare time and nice weather today….gave the cruiser some updating.

Replaced the inner weatherstrip trim for all the doors. Also replaced all the old ivory interior bits and pieces with light grey colored bits and pieces.

Got out on some Vermont Class IV highways today. Truck ran great and was able to test out the lockers and some tire pressure setups for off-road. Some of these roads were created back in the 1700’s which is pretty cool. Next time I’ll remember to take some pictures of gravestones that I pass that are revolutionionary war veterans.

Question for the HZJ77 owners out there (or really any 76/77 and prado 78 owners). I had ordered 2X of the 62741-60060 which is the weatherstrip for the rear side windows but when I attempted to install it, it came out to be longer. Not sure what I am doing wrong so I reverted back to the original parts for now. The originals are fine fortunately and installed back easily but I was just replacing all of it while I was at it.

Have any of you ever installed new weatherstrip for the rear side windows and came across this problem?

Just a wee bit of lift. 😁
