I’m glad it has that effect for yall… maybe I’m doing something wrong 😂

LOL if it's any consolation, watching you work on your truck is therapy for a lot of us. So you got that goin' for ya...which is nice.

Well, 'sanity' is relativ. Compared to some things and they way they are done on work, the things I see & do on my Cruiser are definitely less stupid and drive me less crazy.
And the best of it: On my Cruiser, I do it, the pace I want or can, and it just needs to please me (ok: and the TÜV inspector).
Cheers Ralf

I don't have the same level of passion I once did for land cruiser ownership. I still appreciate the awesome machines they are but sometimes life gets in the way and other things take priority. Barely have worked or driven on mine since I got it back from Colorado but hopefully I can slap myself some sense into me and get back to it.

My 1986 BJ70 with Diesel42 turbo kit needed an oil change, and I’m also hoping to address and fix an oil leak at the turbo oil return to the pan, so I dropped the pan.

I’ve owned this rig for about a year, and this my first time pulling the sump.

The oil is black (to be expected) but I also found a couple dozen tiny tissue-paper-thin metal flakes in the bottom of the pan. No apparent issues in the way it runs. No glitter or tiny flakes I can see in the oil I drained out. No big chunks either…everything is roughly the size of the head of a pin or smaller. All of the metal bits in the pan are wafer-thin. 🤷‍♂️ The flakes do not seem to be magnetic. They feel softish for bits of metal. If I was forced to guess, they seem more like aluminum than lead, but I’m no expert.

336,000km on the engine. I will be sending the oil to Blackstone Labs for analysis. 🤞

After week after week of storms we finally had some beautiful fall weather with days of fun surf, no crowds and empty beaches. Had to go full Aussie mode and load up the troopy with the dingo, boards and an eskie full of tins to smash post surf.
Howdy y'all. What in tarnation is this! Love how you cowpoke occasionally break out in Ozzy slang 🤣
Sounds all hat and no cattle, but come hell or high water, practice will make perfection.

Some tech:
FJ73 camper build is coming along.
I've finished all the structural welding underneath the tub, rust converted, dewaxed, 2pac high build primer then Raptor ute liner.
I also prepped the chassis again in same manner except applied black 2pac as final coat. The chassis saver kit I used the first time was s*** and broke down over 3 years.

Keep your saddle oiled and your gun greased!

This was an incredibly difficult hunt. We packed in and set up a spike camp a few miles deep. Then we went deeper, and I harvested deep in the backcountry. It took two days to haul it all out. We were the only camp of about 30 in the area to harvest. This is my first bull, and it's been a profound experience.

Congrats on the bull! Having hunted public land for elk before - the hunt can be brutal. Hope you had help to get it out of the back country.

well, my first real 70-series post. I'll start a build thread at some point, but you're such a tight community - you probably know that I bought Paul's Troopy. Showed up last night and I didn't have time to do anything. Today I unpacked it (a spare 1FZ-F motor and a bunch of interior build stuff. Got the motor on the stand. Will get some new gaskets and seals (although it's not leaking now), and probably a carb rebuild kit, then it goes in to replace the one in the truck, which runs, but has rod knock.

We were about 10 miles back when I killed it. We spike camped half way. I hauled it out myself, save for one quarter a friend carried. But I did it in an unconventional way... ;-)

I took my cargo bike (not an ebike) and pedaled it on singletrack to set up camp, then pedaled it deeper on singletrack, left the bike on the trail, hiked in, shot the elk, packed it back out to the trail and it took 6 trips and 10 hours. Here's one of the hauls including our camp (tent and stove is in my backpack, food in the rear panniers, and clothing/sleeping kit in the front bag). The gnarliest was the meat bag with all the extra cuts. It had to weigh 100 lbs. Hauling it up and over three ridges and river valleys was brutal.

Relate to this image so much.

Lay out a tarp to protect my driveway/keep the Ol' Lady happy... then drip paint/oil/toxic waste in the literal only spot I didn't protect.

Minor stuff. Added BRO bags to the gullwing box exterior on the interior. Back bourbon bag is camp drink making cr@p, top bags are awning guy lines and other fairly soft stuff. Also added real Velcro to hold the first aid kits on top of the box. Previously they just Velcro'd to the carpet and that sucked when trying to pull them off. Have an accident prone camp/road buddy so those FAKs are extra essential.

Nobody else cares so I share with you fine peoples. Thx!

Yes mate, I take it you’re referring to the paint drips at front of tarp.
You just have to keep them on their toes.
Create other distractions, like I did last week.

They soon forget about the little things.

ahhh yes.... the old 'burn the kitchen down to make her ignore the new land cruiser in the yard' trick
works every time

Happy Birthday 🎂 , BJ !

Today is the 40th anniversary of my VIN.
It got engraved to the frame likely on today's date, back in 1985.

How do I know?
Well, @OGBeno once provided this great wealth of information, which is worth being surfaced again:
It has the VIN manufacturing history.
My VIN counter is only a few numbers before the VIN recorded being first on Nov 1st 1985. So, likely mine got assigned the last workday before: Oct 31st 1985.
Thank you, @OGBeno for the database.
Cheers Ralf

How big was the power supply wire for that compressor?
What is its air output?
Looks powerful.
