My son came to visit and I still have to chunk this mess up.....

Our shop converted his truck to be a factory HZJ74.
And I would do it again in a second. (not just because of the engine but because of everything else that was done at the same time)

Primarily future proofing. As for comparing :hmm:....The only time I really miss the turbo is going up a hill at altitude. Where I live its hilly but not much above sea level. If I thought this truck would be even rarely going to higher altitudes I know I would be sad with the 1HZ adjusted to Vermont elevation......in 4 low at crawling speeds: the 1HZ is So much smoother than the 13BT & The 13BT felt to me to be very jerky. The hand throttle helped quite abit but with the 1HZ you don't need it.

For me the 1HZ is slow....My kind of slow. If I need to go fast I dust off my Dad's (RIP) old 1980 240D Mercedes (Yes, I'm joking)

After week after week of storms we finally had some beautiful fall weather with days of fun surf, no crowds and empty beaches. Had to go full Aussie mode and load up the troopy with the dingo, boards and an eskie full of tins to smash post surf.

PHIXED A BROKEN SUN SHADE
This had been flopping about for a while now. Not sure if Q-Bond is international, but it really just super glue with a carbony graphity sort of filler. Really strong. I had a plastic slug compatible with the q-bond and the cruiser plastic and a taper reamer very close to metal bar of the sun shade.

Tampa Cruisers & Coffee 2025

Huge thank you to everyone who came out to our first Cruisers & Coffee!

We weren’t expecting that kind of turnout for the meet — the interest, support, and energy from this community absolutely blew us away.
Nice specs 70s showed up!.
The vibes were great, the conversations were even better, and some killer raffle prizes found new homes thanks to our sponsors!

Seeing everyone connect over these rigs reminds us exactly why we do what we do. The passion out here? Yeah… this community doesn’t play 🔥.

We appreciated every handshake, every head-nod, and every “what size tire is that?” we heard today.

And seeing so many families out here with the kiddos made it even better — that’s what this is all about.

From the entire Tampa Cruisers family — thank you for the love, the laughs, and the support. We can’t wait to do many, many more of these with you all.

If this is what the first wave looks like… imagine round two. 👀
Stay tuned… we’re just getting started.

P.S. If you missed this one… your friends will remind you. All week. 😬😂

•Chad King & @DLeggett with the 📸 skills.

Finally got around to throwing the keyless entry kit in my old 79, kit was for a later model vdj so some creative wiring was needed but works perfectly being a Toyota kit with all indicators flashing etc. They should’ve all come with it from factory for what you pay for them haha.

Hello,

I charged Purebred's battery. It is due for replacement soon. Note to self: get a deep cycle truck battery, the most powerful one that fits in the battery tray, and do not complain about the extra cost.

On a related subject, October marks another year of 70 Series ownership for me. This year has been rough, yet here I am. Not so long ago, I noticed that working on a 70 Series is great occupational therapy, and a way to stay sane.

Got the hose kit ordered on Saturday for the Shorty, hopefully that arrives soon and I can make some real progress in getting the engine back in...

Just realised I do need to get the heater core tested, as I think that it might be leaky, as it was bypassed when I got the 70; if not, I reckon the heater tap has gone (it's AWOL).

Big job today. SAS sticker on the 74.
