@SNLC those are all grey-market imports, not sold directly by Toyota.
This x2 plus prices start at like 75k for a bare bone gasser . Don’t think they sell one every month

I spent a couple of days with @orangefj45 at Valley Hybrids to swap the 1HDT engine in the troopy that I am building with a built 1HDFT. Why? Because I have nothing better to do...

Rented a U-Haul trailer for $30 and drove down to Stockton on Tuesday morning. In 6 hours we managed to pull the drivetrain, unhook the transmission and clutch from the old engine, install it on the 1HDFT and install the engine in the engine bay of the troopy. The crew there is absolutely fantastic. Better then a F1 team.

GRJ are quite populare within the LC community in Germany. At least that's what I figure from the number of threats on forum.bushtaxi,org. There is a number of importers in Germany, which not only import standard rigs, but also do the adoptions and homologation to meet EU emission requirements, and some even build their own special editions based on GRJx. Certainly those are a bit costy. Real offroaders (not SUVs) are anyways niche products in Germany, as this is one of the densest populated countries in Europe, with barely a need nor much opportunities to use offroading capabilities.
Here are just two examples that might give an impression (not affiliated and not a complete list):

Didn’t some countries get some GR7x’s? Isn’t Germany getting the new body style 70’s? In gas not diesel?

Cheers
Yep. GRJ76s and 79s have been on my radar for a while. I've seen them FS in the UAE as early as 2010 but not sure if that was the first year? JDM didn't get them until 2014 so I'm going to wait...

Installed some splash guards.

My exhaust routing interfered with the passenger side so I had to trim it.

We'll see how long the short piece lasts, probably needs a second fastener.

What did you put in place when you added a snorkel?
Nothing. Just the snorkel. No noticeable difference, but I'm not much of a noticer...

Where'd you get these from?!
Pretty sure Partsouq. I've had them for quite a bit, just now getting to install them. 53737-60040 is at least one of the part numbers. I misplaced the packaging for the other one. They looked to be the same though, I had to remove the fasteners and flip them to the other side on the one I put on the passenger side.

Life has been a bit busy lately, but I carved out some time for the Cruiser.

Here's the lights I picked up recently:

Before I get to installing exterior upgrades, I have some impending interior work...namely sound deadening, vapor barriers, door cards, seatbelts, a bit of wiring, and some minor bodywork.

I had been mentally toying with sending the door cards to be redone. The fiberboard is in rough shape and rattles and vibrates, so I considered making or buying new ones in ABS or similar. After musing over that for a while, I realized new Toyota ones along with the vapor barrier to protect them aren't that expensive, so I just ordered the genuine parts.

I took advantage of Safety Restore's Black Friday Sale to pay in advance for rewebbing my belts, so I need to pull them and ship them off. While I'm in there, I plan to fix some issues like the missing jack/toolkit trim cover, the missing rear seatbelt retention clips, and the like.

img_3146_thumb.jpeg

img_3154_thumb.jpeg

The bottom outboard mounting point for the rear seatbelts had a decidedly non-original-looking bolt. Sure enough, both sides have marginal threads with a nyloc nut stacked on the backside (in the rear fender well.)

img_3149_thumb.jpeg

I got all the belts out. In the process I think I found the main culprit for the dust leak in the back. When off-roading, fine dust enters the rear of the cabin, creeping out from under the trim panels on the back doors. I think the missing body plug visible below is how the dust gets in. Should be easy enough to fix.

img_3155_thumb.jpeg

While I was at it, I pulled the eyesore bare aluminum diamond plate off the rear bumper. If the truck will be seeing some downtime, it is a perfect time to get it powdercoated satin black to match all the other exterior trim.

img_3165_thumb.jpeg

While I was under the rear bumper fishing out a nut I dropped inside the rear bumper/bumper lights, I discovered one of the rear lights on the Dobinsons bumper has water intrusion! It is still functioning, but probably should be fixed.

I still had a bit of energy, so I tore into the driver door. Surprise, surprise, no vapor barrier here either, and another soft, expanded, warped door card cracked in a couple spots and blown out at half the fastening clips. It turns out fiberboard isn't meant to get wet...who would have guessed? 😂

Just spent $110 on 1/2" square steel tubing (140') to build the frames of the cabinets in the back of the troopy. I am a fan of this material. It's cheap, light and easy to work with. Finishing can be with 1/4" plyboo or sheet metal powder coated. I've done similar in our 80 6 years ago and it is like new after 100K miles of travel. Photos of the 80 attached.

Planned on washing the 77 while we had some sun breaks over the weekend. Decided to see if I could pinpoint where water has been making it onto the front floor boards first. Sunroof is always the leading suspect. Light sprays with the hose confirmed that. Couldn't get anything down through the LHS sunroof drain to clean it. Thought that must be it. Pulled the headliner back as much as I could to see whats-what. Even used a scope/inspection camera to follow the tube up/down the channel. Connected securely. Signs of water on the outside of the tube all the way to the top. Tried using a syringe and just slowly squirting water straight into the drain hole in the sunroof tray. All the water drained right out the rocker panel as it should. Then dumped water into the tray and immediately found water drops inside headliner. Took a closer look inside and see the seal is lifting on both side above those drain holes.

This is my RHS. Red arrow is the drain hole and red squares are where the seal is lifting.

(My JDM black repaint sucks)

Was able to push some 3M gasket adhesive in there then wedge wood blocks to hold the spots overnight. See how that does. Actually have most of the seals for the sunroof. Just afraid to take it apart.

FYI for anyone else looking leaks in all the places.

Also found that the seam sealer around the hood hinges are cracked. Didn't see any water signs after hosing the area... but plan to Sitka these next time I have an opportunity. Roughed them up in preparation >>

Been trying to 'update' the VIN plate. Stainless, laser engraving, different shades... The one on the right is a 'sample'. There is a typo on the transmission. 'S' instead of '5'. Will be fixed!

I have seen some in Europe, there is a guy in Germany I follow who builds them and I think sells them.

Must be 3rd party as you guys say and not sold by Toyota.

Cheers
