Putting the final touches on this 99 HZJ73 before handing it over to it’s new caretaker. I bought this one 7 years ago way before it turned 25 and stored it until the time was right . One owner , oem ac , oem lockers , suspension seats , removable top doors etc .

I lucked into a box of 6' exhaust flex pipe. I used it to make my snorkel. Rubber plumbing pipe fittings and some creativity I kept my stock air filter box with its benefits. What you are doing looks easier. To each his own. Your truck, don't let the purist OEM guys get you down. Do your thing!

None as they where never sold in Europe . The 70 series sales dropped fast after 1995 in Europe and by 1999 they where almost completely done . They sold a few more 74 and 78’s up to 2002 before killing them off .

I mean that is a direct fit to the turbo and gives you extra space in the engine bay. Is there a spot for the MAF sensor or do you have to just cut a hole and insert after air filter?
No this is not a direct fit. I will use hoses to make the fit. It will allow me to have dual batteries. I do not have a MAF so I wont need to make a hole for it

This is what I did, some rivets and sealant and no welding necessary.

looks great. simple is always best.

I did something kind of similar on my 77, having a bypass thermostatic valve is key IMO. you can over-cool things if you're not careful. want the ATF to stay in the zone.

I'm in South Florida. There is no such thing as "over-cooling" here...lol.

full disclosure, i tack welded a 3.5" round inlet to attach the snorkle by the fender and tack welded a plate to the former inlet side then jb welded it airtight
so a combo of spray metal and liquid metal.... then paint to hide the welder I aint

can anyone explain what this chamber is for on my airbox? I was going to plug it to have more direct air flow but don’t know if it would do anything.

Didn’t some countries get some GR7x’s? Isn’t Germany getting the new body style 70’s? In gas not diesel?

Cheers
