What did you do on your 70 series today? (34 Viewers)

I got all the belts out. In the process I think I found the main culprit for the dust leak in the back. When off-roading, fine dust enters the rear of the cabin, creeping out from under the trim panels on the back doors. I think the missing body plug visible below is how the dust gets in. Should be easy enough to fix.

My large rear door doesn't have that hole, is that for wiring for a rear wiper maybe?

I do have this plug in my parts pile though, it may be the size you need 9095001435

The wiper wiring theory makes sense. Whatever the origin, my truck doesn’t have a rear wiper now, so the hole can get plugged.

Thanks for the generous offer! One of the reasons this place is so great. 😄 Fortunately I found a plug in my own parts stash that seems to fit well, so I think I’m sorted.

I looked at several 70s in the museum today and none of them without a rear wiper have an access hole in that location. Interesting.
The location is consistent with the motor harness routing however. I wonder if your door has had the wiper pivot hole filled in? A replaced used door perhaps?

Today I finally took back "Kestane" (which means "chestnut" in Turkish) from the bodyshop.

As a chronic problem in 70 series, the side back panels were rusty and full of holes. the bodyshop did an amazing job actually (way better than I was expecting) in cleaning all the rust, repairing the holes and painting both panels in the original colour.

to be honest I was not really expecting the guy to find the correct colour code but he did a great job and painted it as close as possible to the original one. (the car's colour is really rare among 70 series and difficult to find other examples)

the same guy also cleaned the chassis from rust and sprayed protection on the chassis, which is something i wanted him to do.

so, all in all, what has been done with the car so far are;

1- all filters, oils, fluids changed.
2- v-belt and timing belt as well as water pump changed.
3- the starter is changed.
4- tires changed.
5- brakes controlled.
6- overall mechanic control and maintenance done.
7- bodywork and chassis are cleaned of rust and painted in necessary areas (maybe not as effective as separating the body from the chassis but this would be enough for me for some years)

the only thing remaining is to find a solution to the steering wheel vibration I am experiencing after 60 km/h. (the "death wobble" I guess?)

overall, she is ready for summer !

It looks like mine has had the wiper hole plugged.

At this point it is nearly impossible to tell if the door is original or not. I went back and re-watched the slide show from the restoration it got in Europe, and you can see the holes in the door in some of the shots. That was around 2016 or so....but the truck is a 1986, so the door could have been replaced sometime prior, or maybe it had a wiper and something failed at some point, so someone removed it rather than fix it?

Definitely a door off a truck with a rear wiper. If there is no switch in the dash or a washer jar in the right quarter, that is a replacement door.

Finished cutting the rear interior panels for the 73/74 series . Installed a blank set with push buttons in the 99 HZJ73 and used a set for my kzj73 . For the kzj I made some speaker holes and used a combination of push buttons and U nuts with m6 bolts , also put sound deadening on the back and rustoleum truck bed coating on the front sides .

Basically quadrupled my braking power today for about $500 and an hour worth of work by installing a PDI double diaphragm brake booster. Holy crap what a monster size upgrade.

The only problem I have is that I now can’t find the wire that plugs into the brake master cylinder. WTH.

Anyone know where the wire comes out of? I’ve spent an hour with a light going crazy.

Unused. You upgraded to the 80 series set-up. You could have gotten all of those parts from Rockauto mimicking AISIN OEM for $350 delivered.

But hey, it’s Australian.

Been trying to 'update' the VIN plate. Stainless, laser engraving
I've been playing with our school's laser. The stainless you are using starts out black and the laser knocks away the coating?
Have you run across thin engravable metallic material with adhesive on one side?
I want to make some durable labels.

Just spent $110 on 1/2" square steel tubing
What wall thickness is that?
Do you use self-tappers to attach plywood?

Installed some after market reflectors on the back and sides.

Installed a leather steering wheel cover. Not the best option but makes me feel better for now.

Also took some pictures. The colour difference between the newly painted back side panels and the rest of the body is more obvious under the sun light but not a huge problem for me as I know that catching the original paint was really difficult.

Is the DynaMat lightweight?
Dynamats Spec. sheet says 2.0 lb/ft3

My factory hood insulation was crumbling into pieces so I replaced it with Dynamat hoodliner. It comes in a sheet measuring 32"x54", which is slightly shorter than the oem insulation width-wise, but still installs neatly.

Looks like you got new fasteners or were able to re-use your push-in fasteners? Were they long enough for the 3/4" thickness? As it's adhesive backed, are the fasteners a 'belt and suspender' thing?
