So I did my search on mud and my digging around on the LC and believe that I have the source of my wet carpet on passenger side. Based on my mud search it looks like the source of my leak would be called either the "water drain for the evaporator" or "AC discharge tube"? If someone could please share the NAME of the piece that I need to deal with and how to get it to stop leaking i.e. replace something, bend something, etc.

I circled the believed source and the arrow points to where the water comes onto the carpet from under the rubber mat. Thankfully that black tar material that the carpet liner is stuck to seems to have prevented the water from touching the metal and rusting out my floor!

Thanks in advance!

call beno on Monday and guide him to this pic

Also run a flexy wire thru your sunroofs front drain holes down to the rockers before the rain season.......if blocked with leafs n crud these yield the same wet spot.

If all else fails......get your passenger some Depends undergarments. ;)

Cruisers leak from many orifices......and most leaks have their own part numbers.

That hose is held on by friction and passes thru a grommet in the firewall.
Looks like your firewall grommet has went missing.
Order it from you local dealer or pay more in shipping to get from Beno/Dan, either way works.

That black box is your evaporator core for AC and yes they get dirty inside. Mine had 2 handfuls of small leaves/tree garbage.
A zip tie can clean the hose out.

I used weedwacker line to clean out the sunroof drains. In my case, it ended up being the windshield gasket that leaks.. the installer who replaced the windshield did not follow the instuctions in the FSM. He did not use sealant. :(

Did you ever get an answer to this? Mine is missing the grommet as well & I need to order it. Thanks.

On my '94, the part number was 88897-60010

about $2.50 at a local dealer. Can be replaced from the engine bay side by removing the top 10mm heat shield screw on the firewall.

Awesome! Is the actual hose only ~2" long or am I missing some hose, too? Thanks!

Roughly. The rubber hose ends abruptly, cut off square. It barely protrudes through the grommet into the engine compartment.. maybe 1/8" of the edge of the hose pokes through. I'd say compared to the plane of the portion of the firewall we are talking about, maybe 1/2-3/4" of hose pokes through. All of this is behind a metal heat/splash shield.. I think Mr T figured with the shield in the way they didn't have to curve it downward or add a metal nipple, like many other cars have.

if you want to order the hose too: 88539-60080
About a dollar at my local dealer.

Thanks. Ordered it locally. $3.07 with a 15 day wait!!!

88897-60010 is NLA. Anybody know where I can source one? This water in the footwell problem is driving me nuts. After farrrr too much effort I tracked the issue down to this grommet. To much frustration is see it’s NLA. I have a jimmy rigged solution for now that is working but I’d like the oem grommet new or used. I’ve reached out to many cruiser parts suppliers to no avail as well.

If you still have the drain hose (88539-60080, cooler unit drain #1) and are just missing the "grommet, cooler" (88897-60010) then Butyl rubber pushed around the hole might work (or is that your current fix?).

My hands are just to big to fidget with it. I found a used grommet of a junkyard truck. I think many others out there may be experiencing leaks from missing grommets. I've been to two lc specialist shops over 6 months and spent countless hours going through everything trying to figure out what's going on. I never assumed the grommet could be so useful. Water runs back down the edge of the tube over time and it builds enough up to form a stream and, due to surface tension, pulls water back into the cab. Maybe I'll try to get some of these made for others so they aren't SOL.
