I also have a pair of the Scepter 20L cans. But, I find them inconvenient for anything other than water storage. I prefer something I can place on my tailgate and dispense from a spigot. I always carry a jug with a spigot, and when I need more than 5 gallons I refill as necessary from the Scepters. Trying to pour water in a pot or bottle is a PITA from the Scepter cans.

I use mine for pouring into pans, cups, etc. I just don't open the vent on the lid and unscrew the ~1" cap, it sorta 'glugs' out but works ok. There was a thread on ExPo? about a spigot mod for the Scepter cap, allowing you to simply tip the can on its side and open the valve, that might be a great solution to the issue.

450 Dude actually put a spigot on the bottom of his so you could access water while the can is still in the rack swing out. Very handy on the trail.

I've seen a couple of those, my only concern is the way I store them it would be vulnerable, though if your can carrier allows it, its a very nice solution.

Front Runner actually makes a 20L/5Gal can that has a spigot built into the bottom:

Here is Scott Howes (Odysseus here on Mud), very handy to have water just a knob away anytime:

...
When I had Dr Smash design my FJ60 rear bumper one of the design notes was allowing for a spigot on the water can.

I have always have one of the Coleman jugs I posted earlier handy. At stops or in camp I set it up with a can of Goop or camp soap and one of those cheap terry cloth towels you get 10 to a pack at Home Depot. That's always a hit with the crowd especially after a recovery or trail repair, or even a "Nature" stop. The bumper mount will just make it that much easier. I'm pretty sure :princess: will love it.

What about this one from AT, holds 19 gallons.

Could secure it in the back of your rig, or if you had a trailer ...

Pricey though at $445!

I have used Scepter water cans for years. They are great and havent leaked yet. to control the flow I just lay it on its side and open the vent and it comes out in a small stream. Only time I open the large side is to fill it up.

My dad actually got me using these. He has one thats probably 30years old thats a fuel can that he has used only for water. His vent cap broke a long time ago and he used a lid off a aquavelva bottle lol.

I started out using those Reliance containers. They held up to one Rubicon trip (Strapped to a Tentrax trailer) followed by a few hunting trips. One spout broke off at the base of the cap and the little push in plugs never stayed seated, resulting in leaks.

I replaced them with Wedco water cans. No worries about leaking or broken parts. You can literally throw them in the bed of a truck and not worry about them.
