“Wisdom is given equally to everybody. The point is whether one can exercise it.” -Taiichi Ohno

Taiichi Ohno is considered the father of Toyota's production system and is shown in the photo below, which was shared by @JohnnyC in post #216 of this thread. Ohno gazes at something inside a Toyota factory, something obviously very pleasing to him. Perhaps he's observing an employee working diligently on the line. He's wearing a factory cap. I've been on the hunt for a cap like that ever since @JohnnyC posted it.

It took 4 years and 364 days to land an example. Although I can't place it in the same era as the cap Ohno is actually wearing, it does look strikingly similar. The yellow patch safety-pinned to the side translates to "works safe", or something of that nature. It's become a favorite.

Very cool!!

Those repoped would probably sell a few.

Finally found an answer to a mystery that's eluded me for years now. I've seen many parts catalogs of 1950's - 60's Land Cruisers, Toyota sedans, Toyota small trucks, big trucks, and buses which depict the larger steel TOYOTA TEQ MOTOR tool box. I've never seen a catalog that shows the smaller TEQ box until a 1961 Toyota Corona catalog came along. Below is the Tool Group page. Would guess other sedans during that time period also came equipped with the smaller box, just need to find more parts catalogs for different vehicles back then to confirm. Good to know of a least one, and can finally sleep at night. :)

From the modern tool files...

This set has no manufacturer markings. Nothing on the tools, nothing on the case, no literature within. However, the tools are very similar to the Nepros line of tools made by Kyoto Tool Company (KTC), the primary producer of in-vehicle hand tools for Toyota since 1950 or 1951. So if you have Toyota wrenches in your tool rolls or bags, you've got KTC tools. I reached out to them to confirm they were indeed the tool makers. Their kind response affirmed it was a KTC-made set.

It originated from the Osaka Prefecture in Japan. Date of manufacturer couldn't be determined, but it was prior to the beginning of their Nepros Artisan Gold series. The tools have the new Toyota logo, so production is sometime after 1989. I estimate it to be from the 2000s. KTC indicated the set was made for Toyota, to be awarded as a prize to the "excellent mechanic in Japan Toyota's mechanic contest". I'm unclear whether this was the top prize , nor do I know how many sets were awarded. Guessing relatively few. Evidently KTC makes gold-toned tools exclusively for Toyota (independent from their Artisan Gold line) for special occasions such as the mechanic contest. The gold color on this set appears a shade or two lighter than their Artisan Gold tools. The nice metal presentation case with keyed locks has formed foam for the tools. Not sure I'll be doing any wrenching with them. :)

Here is another gold-toned tool made by KTC for Toyota.

I suppose I have to plug KTC. I've got no skin in the game, but if they've supplied tools for Toyota for almost 75 years, they are doing something right. I think the legions of us Land Cruiser and Toyota enthusiasts who use the tools in our Toyota rolls, bags, or boxes regularly, can attest to their quality. If you aren't familiar with KTC tools, their Nepros tool line, or KTC in general, just Google them.

Not vintage KTC but I really dig these modern KTC kits. These are Toyoya techs and "Top Tech" support crew for the Jaos LX600 we are racing this week in Mexico. Awesome gents! 😎
