Fixed it for you ;). The Ferry is currently down indefinitely :(. Big time $ issues. There is a chance that it will be back up by the spring, but people will want to check beforehand. I was planning to take the Burr Trail into HITR next month but had to alter plan due to the Ferry not running. I have done Burr Trail and it is fantastic. I was really looking forward to doing it again.

Makes White Rim a strong consideration in my book

The White Rim means you're in Moab which is great fun in itself. Great scenery, but maybe not the back country adventure you'd fly across the country to 4 wheel. It's fun and scenic and all, just not very challenging. I did it in my stock 80 series when it still had running boards, if that gives an idea. If you decide to go there-you need a campsite/permit. The best campsites are mid trail-Either White Crack or the Murphy sites 1-3. You cannot just decide to camp where you want. NPS is very particular on this trail because of the high use. Get your permit now if that's your plan because they tend to book up with Mountain bike tours in the spring.

Just go for the day permit, they are unlimited and dont sweat it if you dont make it out in the day. There is nothing back east that can compare to the WR. Running it in a day will give you time to run trails in Moab with plenty of challange.

I'd be happy to give Moab proper a miss. Greg and Aaron did cruise moab last year. Greg and I did some trails in moab in March 2015 and I would say I enjoyed our trip through the swell and two days on hole in the rock immeasurably more than the days we spent in Moab.

Would you guys recommend doing a day or two on white rim heading down to the hitr trailhead over say a few days in Lockhart basin / needles / Devils kitchen?

I just had a good long chat with @Cruiserdrew and I think we have a good plan, with various options that we can decide based on what the weather is doing at that point.

We can spend the first 4 days running HITR, including a nice hike down to Lake Powell at the end. After HITR, if the weather is looking good, head up over bears ears (9,000' elevation) and make our way down into beef basin and onto canyonlands. Exit through elephant hill cross the needles district into Lockhart basin, finally making it back out to Moab. This would be a full on 8 days.

If the weather isn't cooperating, we can do maze district, entering via poisen springs, destined for sunset pass.

If the weather is absolutely shocking, we can fall back to Moab.

Maps and routes are in progress...can we get our flights already?

Sounds like a great plan. Tackle hole in the rock first then make our way back. Most routes back would include bail out options based on how slow or fast we traveled.

Looks like just shy of 6hrs worth of Tarmac between the airport and the start of the trail. If we get an early arrival into SLC we should be able to make it close to the trailhead that first night.

Gents - I feel like a real tool having to make this post, but regretfully I need to bug out on this adventure. Several life events have consumed all of my spare time as of late and I haven't had ANY time to work on the 80 for this trip. In the middle of a complete remodel of the kitchen and have been putting 60+ hours a week in at work. I would rather bow out now rather than be THAT guy and realize I can't pull it off in March.
I'm positive this is going to be an epic trip and I'm totally bummed out about this. Feel free to bust my balls...I've got thick skin!

how was the spur? did you get to the lake?

Spur was very entertaining glad I did it. I choose a different line when it was my turn;) Does not matter your skill level you will be a better driver when you are done.

Dumb question would a stock Sequoia be able to do this stuff? I don't know a lot about either Sequoia's off-road ability or the trails at all.
