I had an opportunity to to buy a Truck Vault with the intention of try to modify it to fit in the 80 since they were too wide as was.

Removed to Top drawer. Pealed back the carpet and went to work. I needed to take 5” out of the width to make it fit between the wheel wells. This is after making my cuts and putting it back together.

I choose to take 5 inches out of the smaller to drawer.

The drawer going back together.

The front of the drawer is made from a nice composite material with a finished 1/8 rounded bevel that I was able to match easily with the router after I narrowed it to fit. I put it all back together with 3M carpet adhesive and some staples to finish of the exterior carpet.

Lots of storage inside. The small drawer is 7 1/4 inches wide inside. I think it would be a perfect drawer for fluids and trail tools, etc. to keep them separate from camp gear in the big box.

It looks good but I don’t think I am going to use it.

Flex head ratchet wrenches are your friend for the starter. I bought a set specifically for that job :).

The air pressure sensor under the intake is just for the air injection system. It senses pressure in the tube between the air pump and valve to know if the system is operating.

Got mine running and let it run for an hour. Its running a little lean as well. 20% at idle, 25% at 3000 rpm. Dont have driveshafts or brakes at the moment so cant road test it.

Glad yours is running. I will be interested to hear if you are experiencing and reduced performance or power with your lean condition. In addition to my lean I am experiencing some sort of reduced power issue kinda like a limp mode.

I sent my harness and ecu back to Tim for a complete rework. Looking forward to getting back.

First, I am sorry for the people who got excited for a post on this thread hoping it was an update. I know this is one of my more favorite threads. With that said, I watched this video this week of another 2UZ swap and they mentioned how one of their teething issues was how grounds were set up for the ECU and sensors and it made me think of this project. Fingers crossed it is resolved when the harness comes back regardless.

I have watched a number of her build videos and recall that built her own harness from scratch for that engine. Hats off to here I wouldn’t want to do that.

@Bad Mojo your message is well timed. I think I am receiving the harness back today. Tracking says so anyway but I have not heard from the builder, so I am not sure what to expect.

Last I talked to him he had not pin pointed any issues with the harness or ecu but also had not run it on his engine to see what fuel trim readings he was getting on his set up with it.

I hope to get it installed asap and will share updates after I do. 🤞

woohooo!!!

Finally got mine on the road. Put 90 miles on the past few days. Long term fuel trims are staying right around 21% but hasn't set lean codes yet. Other than that its running fine. Going to see if I can check fuel pressure and maybe smoke test it this week. MAF was reading slightly low at idle. 3.8-4.2g/s but swapped it out with no change.

Before I get into the harness, I had purchased a new oem brake booster, that it turns out I didn’t need but I had upgraded the master already, so I installed the booster. One less thing to worry about.

I also installed a new steering shaft gasket grommet as mine needed replaced.

I received the harness back from Tim last week. I could see instantly that Tim had improved the product. I knew that he had opened up the entire harness and tested each circuit. He wrapped it with some shrink wrap which looks pretty clean. There ware upgrades to the way way builds the relay box and the harness plug that is provided for integration with the body harness is much better than the older style. The entire harness looks reworked as I can see changes in the way it was wired.

I installed the harness just enough to test it. Spent about two hours trying to figure out why it wouldn’t start. I had not put the dash back together for the test and finally figured out the gauge cluster has to be plugged in to complete the circuit, so it will start.

After that it started and I let it idle for about 10 minutes while watching fuel trims in Techstream. The short trims were both at 0 while the long fuel trims were at 9 and 10. The MAF reading is higher than it had been before.

The Fuel Trims seem promising, so I need finish putting it all together, get some gas and take it for a test drive.

Big tease Dennis! Hanging off a cliff waiting to see what happens!!!

Let me know how your reworked harness turns out please. I got mine back right before I had to head out to work for the season so my stuff is sitting on the bench waiting till I get home again

@ceylonfj40nut @mrsleeve and everyone one else waiting for results.

I took it out for a test drive today. It was disappointing. It is still behaving significantly underpowered. I only drive about 5 miles but it struggled to get up to 50mph. In third gear on the return it was running about 3600 rpm and struggled to go 35 mph on a slight incline.

There are no trouble codes at this point and the Fuel Trims look good. I hooked up a fuel gauge when I got back and the fuel pressure is about 41 psi on my old gauge but probably better in my newer gauge, I just didn’t have it handy.

I set up my phone to watch the throttle body while I worked the pedal and it is opening up fully, so there isn’t an air restriction.

I need to figure out what my next move is.

Sorry that it has given you so much trouble Dennis 🤨
Hopefully it’s something little that got missed.

@Zjohnsonua you have done a lot of these swap's any ideas or help?

Damn! So wishing! It’s likely something small. You are close! Rooting for you! Slee is also very good at these. Worth a call?

It was suggested I checked the timing marks again, so I did. They still look good.

I pulled all the plugs again which are new or at least were new when I put the motor in originally. After pulling the plugs I put a scope in each cylinder to see how they looked. They all looked great. I didn’t see any issues.
