Anyone know if the left/driver side rear combo light for a '77 is NLA? I tried ordering on ToyotaPartsDeal.com but their image is oddly this:

Clearly the taillight off an older cruiser.

Part number is 81560-60111, which I've verified against the parts catalog as well as the right/passenger tail light which I just replaced.

I see Cruiser Corps offers an aftermarket replacement, but they say its for both sides meaning the weep holes must be missing. I get why that would be cheaper to manufacture, but I'd prefer a proper replacement.

I just ordered rear combo lights for my 75 (might be the same...but there might have been a change in 76, can't remember). I ran into the same issue- either the wrong picture, or both part numbers listed as the "right rear" when one was clearly supposed to be the left. A rep at the parts house was able to confirm one was left, and one was right, but said they were in short supply. They haven't been delivered yet...I will confirm part numbers if, or when, they show up. They are definitely running low though...

However lots of good Japanese reproduction tail lights and worse Thai/Malaysian reproductions available from several vendors. There are options...

FWIW - I bought a set of these Toyota OEM units last year. Here is what my EPC looks like for 81560-60111, which is what it looked like when I received it.

Yep, I saw this one as well when I was searching - and definitely much closer to "correct." However, I seem to recall having some difficulty in the parts systems as they want the modern XXXXX-XXXXX code, as opposed to the single set of numbers/letters shown above. I was able to use these, though, to find what I hope are the modern part numbers for my lights!

I was just referencing the EPC page above ( click here ). If you click the five digit number beside the part, it will give you the XXXXX-XXXXX code.

Thanks, GA Architect. From one Architect to another, that's a great resource I had yet to come across.

I think @ranma21 sells these rear lights, both the OEM version as well as the aftermarket one.

I think a lot of places do, including CCOT and @cruiseroutfit - so I know they're still available. I believe the late-model (late 70's, early 80's) OEM versions are NLA...but the mid-70's combi-lights still are. Based on the difficulty I had sourcing one through a Toyota dealer I suspect they are in fairly short supply though...

Hey all -

Just following up on my original post about combo tail lights. My OEM light arrived today. Here they are, with part numbers. You can barely make out the "L" and "R" on top to designate left and right. This, at the very least, solved the mystery of both of these units being designated "Right side" in many part systems. One is definitely the left.

I did notice that the plug on these are slightly different than what are currently in my truck. These are the new lights':

Vs the old light I pulled previously.

Unfortunately I reassembled them for before the new lights came so I haven't had a chance to test fit and function. Obviously the new lights are designed for a retaining clip, where my existing ones are not. Hopefully they will fit.

What is the difference between L and R?

I see SOR lists different tail lights for '76-'78 vs. earlier. What is the difference?

Contact coolerman here on mud for the right mating comnector which ever you decide new style or old he probably has both.

Already done! ;)

I saw that and that's true of the OEM part numbers as well. I think the plug is different but I'm honestly not sure...maybe it's a subtle difference in shape or size?

In either case, I think the 78-83 lights are discontinued (but there are aftermarket available) so I'd be interested to know what the difference is...

Confirmed today - newer plug style still mates to older plug - and the lights worked properly, so I got the correct lights, so I believe that OEM is still available for 73-76.

Anybody know what changes in the various date ranges? Looks like there were different part numbers for 73-76,
76-79 (driver's side discontinued) and 79-84 (all discontinued)

Just different plugs?

Yeah AFAIK, just the plug changes.
There are 2 slightly different squarish plugs in 74-78, seen above.
Becomes a rounded, waterproof type in '79-later.

Yup, and the round pin gets a 5-pin plug with integrated ground. As mentioned above we do stock both aftermarket (Japanese) and OEM tail lights.
