I made a set for my '74 40 using 1" green canvas straps purchased at a fabric store. Still had the original hardware, but the straps themselves had disintegrated. Had to borrow a sewing machine and get a little training on it. Lengths of straps and stitching pattern was based on photos of the originals. They aren't perfect, but I'm pretty happy with the result.

While we're on the subject of unobtanium, was fortunate to just add this to the tool box. Anyone who has an HHH taken directly from a Land Cruiser, can you substantiate the size of the lock? 30mm or 35mm?

Basically asked the same question about the HHH lock in another thread. @pardion has a 30MM HHH that came with a 1965 FJ40. Very good to know.

@Engineer8000 (and everyone else who cares to know), I cut two lengths of 14" and two lengths of 7". The 14" lengths will make two 12 3/4" straps after 1 1/4" is overlapped on one side of the mounting clips. The two 7" lengths will make two 4 1/2" straps after 1 1/4" is overlapped on both sides. After they are strapped in over the bag and tightened, there is plenty of excess on the longer length, so you've got some wiggle room if you want to make them a bit shorter.

I purchased these from strapworks.com. If you get the d ring anchors and the rectangular loops you can just swap the rectangle loops for the d rings in the anchors. The loops/rings are nickel plated steel and the anchors are ss. I m going to order the 1" olive strap from the creative thimble, I was told their material is very good.
