My grandparents totalled their '98 4dr Honda Accord last Wednesday in Greenville. They need to find a replacement vehicle. They are in their early 80s so need something that is easy to get in/out. They are considering a 4dr hatchback, a small wagon or a small SUV so that it would be easy to load my grandpas wheelchair. Anyone seen any good deals or have advice on what to avoid etc?
Plan to spend less than $10K and preferably 50K miles or less and 2007 or newer.
So far considering Ford Focus Hatchback ('11/'12), Nisan Versa Hatch, Nissan Cube, Scion xB, Honda Element.

Anyone know anything about these and/or think of another option?
Concerns/thoughts to consider:
Wheelchair transport
Ease of entry/exit
Blind spots
Dependability
Simple to operate
Good MPG (~30mpg or more)

Really hard to beat the Mazda3. If the focus hatchback is in your list, you've got to check out the Mazda3 wagon. We had one and it was great!

Crazy story behind this picture.

DAMN!!! I went and read the story, lucky folks for sure. Sure is a tough way to bring home some firewood.

Thanks, Marshall. Assuming I can get it started I hope to bring the cruiser by your shop in the near future. I will give you a call. Attaching some poorly lit pics. Engine, hole in drivers side floor, and interior. She's dirty.

Coming to an offroad vehicle you cannot afford...maybe in 10 years we'll be able to get this on our Toyotas.

Ended up taking the Focus off the list because of some auto trans issues. I am encouraging them to go for the Nissan Cube or the Rav4 because of space and side swinging rear door that my grandma should be able to close easily. Only issues I ready about the Cube was some early '99 CVT trans issues. But none after that. Anyone know anything about 05/06 Rav4? Or newer if you have seen one with <75k miles and ~$10k

Wife had an 06 Limited V6 Rav and loved it. We sold it years ago and she still talks about it. The rear door is a plus AND a minus to me. If it's raining or something having the hatch open above you allows you to get stuff in and out without getting soaked. The swing out is nice because it's easy to open and close and easy to get stuff in and out of (like if she can't reach up to pull the hatch down).

They need to paint rust spots on it for authenticity!

I hope to head to LKQ tomorrow am if anyone wants to join me. They are having 50% off sale today and tomorrow. Barring mucho rain I will be there. PM or text me if your interested so we can coordinate. I have to be in Pickens for a family get together by lunch otherwise I would be there longer and try to make it over to Steve's.
