Are you saying a plug in or battery powered? I think both are a good option I have several battery powered dewalt tools but also know a dewalt vendor rep from my time working at Valspar so I get a hook up on batteries.

I'm on the fence about battery vs. plug-in, I'm leaning towards battery.

Also, leaning towards Dewalt.

Need to revive this thread a little.

I'm thinking about getting an electric impact wrench soon. I like both DeWalt and Milwaukee, anybody have any preference?

I'll put it to a vote. What do you guys think?

What torque range / intended use do you have for your impact?

I have a few little impacts that are awesome for zipping all kinds of fasteners in and out of all kinds of stuff, then a 1/2" drive beast that's perfect for lug nuts but gets little use outside of that. All of mine are battery powered, 18v Dewalts.

I'm totally using this to rock off some lug nuts. So it would need to be a 1/2" drive and ~900 - 1000+ ft/lbs o' torque.

Now that I think about it, I could use a little impact too. I could get used to zipping off some smaller stuff.

I have a couple of these and similar sized-units and they work really well. I've got one with charger and two NI-CAD batteries I could sell you cheap. I have enough duplicates.

I have this for lug nuts. With a fully-charged battery this will take lug nuts off of LCs no problemo, and in my experience, it can take of an entire set without swapping batteries.

Wow! These are much more affordable than their shiny new cousins. I was worried I'd have to fork over more than a few Benjamins for this.

I've got the little impact and it's great. I use it for automotive and other stuff all the time. Get one. It's the cordless tool I use more than anything.
I also just picked up the older 1/2" drive big impact really cheap from a pawn shop. It's only 400 or so ft/lbs but should be more than enough for lug nuts. Maybe I can upgrade someday to the crazy power 1/2" but I've got the air one for backup.

The 20v stuff is great and what will be more popular going forward but the 18v stuff is cheaper and they make an adapter now so you can put the 20v lithium on an 18v tool.

If you want to come try them out just swing by sometime.

Battery is definitely the way to go. Not having to reach for cords even when a plug is available is a dream. Several years ago I would have hedged on that because the cordless market still had some technical issues to nail down but today's cordless devices rock

I switched from Dewalt to Milwaukee and did not look back for cordless tools. We use them on the crew in the middle of no where too. 18 volt all the way with them. I found out the hard way I would burn up the Dewalts drilling thru thick metal like frames.

In terms of corded vs cordless, cordless is the way to go. With the advances over the years they don't have the problems they used to. Now if price is an issue corded will still win out.

If you have money to burn get Hilti..... you would be hard pressed to find a better cordless tool.

I use a small inverter to charge my batteries while rolling. but I suppose a bigger inverter could be used to power a corded drill too...I have a decent set of rigid tools and the lifetime warranty on the batteries

Ive got milwaukee m18 stuff(2 1/4 inch impacts. 1/2 inch impact, 3/8 drill, and light.) I almost went with Rigid, because they were doing a special for lifetime battery replacement at the time.

I am thinking of moving from my Ridgid cordless tools to the Lowe's 24v Brushless.

The Kobalt Impact Wrench with supposedly 650 ft lbs of torque is $159.99 in store right now at our Pittsboro location (which is always cheaper and gives a military discount).

Shop Kobalt 24-Volt Max-Volt 1/2-in Drive Cordless Impact Wrench 1 at Lowes.com

They are running their Black Friday pricing again (online is much higher).

I would be doing a complete move from Ridgid - let me know if you are interested. Almost all look and operate like brand new.

My Ridgid stuff is great, never had an issue and has a lifetime warranty, but the allure of the 650 ft lb cordless impact from Kobalt is almost too much :) This is probably dumb as the Ridgid stuff is proven and works well, but if I could do a swap without losing my arse, then it might be worth it.

I basically have this:

RIDGID GEN5X 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Kit (5-Piece)-R9652 - The Home Depot

and this:

RIDGID JobMax 18-Volt Console Multi-Tool (Tool-Only)-R862004 - The Home Depot

Plus the new 300 ft lb impact wrench and a second hex driver, two chargers and 4 batteries.

Not sure if the lifetime warranty would transfer.

My dewalt 20v Impact driver does a great job even on lug nuts...I don't over tighten them though. Was going to purchase a dedicated one but decided to pick up a 3/8 adapter just to see...still just using it.

Have all Hitachi in the shop. They are used at least a couple hours straight 5 days a week. Had to replace brushes in one. And one impact grenaded. But all the rest are rock solid. I buy reconditioned A ones from this place.

Hitachi Reconditioned Tools for Sale | Big Sky Tool

Just bought a brushless combo this week for 150. Impact drill and driver. I threatened all my guys they were off limits. They were for me and me only.

All the Milwaukee and Dewalt broken crap is in a box.

Whatever you go with stick with.

I can't get my diff and transfer case bolts off to change my fluids. Would a cordless or corded impact wrench work on these??? I sprayed them with PB blaster and smacked them with a hammer to try to loosen them up.
