Thanks for the pics.
Looks like some good quality wheeling.
I am not into the extreme crawling or anything.

The pics you posted is what I love to do.
Exploring, and expeditions.
My backyard is full of that type of terrain.

I wish I was there with you guys.

Cheers,
Nick

Well heck, Nick, have us up there some time!

Start driving now, it's 2600 miles to BC from here!!!! :D (You guys are probably way closer than me though, around 2500 or so :flipoff2: )

You would be more than welcome to come up here.
I could show you around some trails.
But 2600 miles would be quite the trip.

Thats pretty much 4 hard days of driving each direction. Ouch!

Cheers,
Nick

Just got back from scouting out a nice expedition type of wheelin trip. I'll post some pics below. I figured that the upstate guys may be interested since you can get to cullowhee from clemson in about 1 hour 45 minutes (i think, i know it's pretty close)

Anyways the trip goes something like this: Meet at the gas station at the entrance of caney fork off of Highway 107 (about 8 minutes from Western Carolina University campus). Drive up caney fork, turn left onto moses creek. This road dead ends into national forest land. Once there wheel up to the top of the mountain range (approximately 2hour trail ride). This trail used to be easy, but it spanked my ass this trip. Camp on the bald that evening. (huge open field approximatly 5,500 feet elevation). Trail ride back down the other side of the mountain and follow the ridgeline around for a really nice trail ride towards another bald approximatly 4 to 5.5 hour trail ride depending on who wants to stop and play on obstacles and who gets stuck.

All told we were on trails for just over 35 miles. Didn't see another single human for two days. You will get some scratches, you will get muddy, there is the possibility that you may get body damage if you want it. Living out of the cruiser for two to three days.

I really want to go back and map the entire loop with GPS. Perhaps someone will like to go again that has one and map it.

If there is interest, please chime in. It is a blast!!

Just to chime in. I have about 7 acres in Caney Fork at the end of Peachtree Rd. which is about .10 mile past moses creek. I lived on Peachtree for 7 years until my Dad passed. I have never been up moses creek.

I have been to the end of CaneyFork and with some patience you can get onto the parkway. How do I join your club?

Killer. I love that area up there. It's so out of touch with everything else. You can live a cool, peaceful life up in that area and be totally content. At least i could. Sounds kinda hippy, but i think it would be awesome. Grouse hunting, fly fishing, small mouth bass fishing, cliff diving, hiking, rock climbing, white water rafting, water skiing (bear lake, wolf lake, lake glenville), awesome golf courses within 30 minutes, turkey hunting, did i mention awesome 4 wheelin'?

I will tell you i was very suprised to see how quickly hwy 281 is developing with homes. Used to be truely "the boonies" and we are talking deliverance style. Now there are homes going up and property for sale signs everywhere. I think land investment up there is a gold mine.

about the parkway comment, i'm not totally sure if there is a legal route to get onto the parkway? I could be wrong, but i have yet to see a route that was legal.

Geez...leave it to me! I failed geography...twice.

I guess I'll never be leading a scouting party:rolleyes:

Hey guys. I'm not a member of your club but I just happened to stumble upon this thread tonight. Maybe I should take this as a sign to join.

I just got back yesterday from wheeling this same area for about the 4th or 5th time in the last couple months. I've been with a combination of my dad and a buddy of mine. I think we have investigated a majority of the trails and loops up there. There are some good loops to take that will send you up and down the mountain along different ridgelines. Starting the trail from the Caney Fork side i think is much more interesting than Moses Creek (although I have not been on the Moses Creek side since last October). It adds more of a technical aspect to the climb. There are multiple routes to take from this side as well. All end up at the balds at the top.

As a side note, the state has begun to mark the trail with what appears to be plans to "improve" the roads - ie take the fun out of it. Hopefully this will not happen in the near future.

Most of the trails are passible. We always bring a chainsaw and clear any fallen trees etc from the trail. In reference to stock vehicles, my dad is able to run this entire system with a Dakota doublecab 4X4 with 32" BFG MT's and only limited slip in the back. He has to take some modified lines from what the cruiser does but he eventually makes it up. Expect scratches from some of the close quarters with the bushes and trees.

I would love to come up when you guys are planning a trip. Has a date been set?

Hey welcome.

There should be info on how to join a few post up. If not give Alex a pm or me and I will get you the info. Why don't you come to the pool tournament this weekend. Looks like we will have a big crowd. ANd Barleys is the best.

Trapper the dates for the trip are March 17, 18, 19 ......... you are more than welcome to come, and as Trollhole said above come meet us in Greenville this coming weekend at Barleys, it'd be a great time to meet the club!!!

Unfortunately, I'm on trauma surgery call this Saturday. The bad part, among other things, about being a resident is VERY little free time. I do plan on joining the club. It sounds fun. I'll go ahead and ask the chief for those days in March so I can join the ride.

sweet, if Trapper joins this could more than double the clubs IQ average :D........ seriously though, Trapper do make sure you join us for the ride up at Caney Fork, it'd be nice to have some one with knowledge of the trails there. For just about all of us in the club it will be our first time up there, and from what I can tell looking at the maps there are miles and miles of trails and plenty of trails I am sure don't show up on the map...... it'd be easy for us newbies to make a wrong turn.

If you can't come to Barleys the next club event is the "wrenching party" at Chucks house in in Clemson..... there will be free food and beer and you will learn alot about cruisers!!

Wheelin' Doc!

I'd say you had best pay attention to signs. Join us! We shed blood at every wrenching event
and having a Doc around would be sweet!
That, AND you know trails to ride. SWEET!
Ohm....cruiser,cruiser,cruiser....Ohm...

I am the aforementioned "buddy" of Trapper and would like to try to join you guys if you would welcome a lowly Tacoma! But I'm still in medical school and will be on my surgery rotation in March so I don't know if I'll be able to get the weekend off. Sick people...
