@NCMTNS and @bencallaway , how's the tire noise on the freeway?

Professional tire tester Joe Bacal noted a slight noise advantage to the AT3s over the AT3Ws. Some end user reviews have noted odd reverberations or harmonics at higher freeway speeds? NVH is an important quality to me.

No real noticeable noise as of yet. I have noticed handling improvements on a few occasions. Most notable is the improvement in stiffness/ less body roll on highway curves, etc.

(I just finished 8 hour drive yesterday on my LC with stock suspension and stock sized KO2 [285/60/18 LT-D]...i have 17k miles on KO2...rode beautifully and quiet on the highway thru dry and rain conditions.)

So, between the two, unless Toyo has some catastrophic defective design, i would get AT3 over Falken by a mile!! AT3 is a taller tire AND weighs 9 lbs less of unsprung weight per tire.

But may not be the same with the OEM 20" wheel.

The 20" KO2 is Load Range E i believe. You may be right since sidewall is thinner too. But OP was thinking about 285/65/18 tire.

Either way, Falken’s horrible unsprung weight is just bad.

I've been running the Open Country AT3s for a few hundred miles (285/75R17). Off road they offered great traction on large rocks and through mud, though I've had them on trail for only one trip. On the highway they are quiet for AT tires, only slightly louder than stock. I'm not yet seeing any mileage sacrifices over stock either.

What’s your setup to fit them? Lift? Any trimming necessary or just moving fender liners?

I'm planning a low-key lift in the fall. With stock HE suspension, I have eliminated most rubbing by moving front fender liner attachment forward, heat-shaping part of the liner, removing front mud flaps, and trimming a little trailing-edge plastic on the front wheel wells. I'm running zero offset as well to make things more difficult. I get a very little bit of rubbing at weird times. I expect lifting the front by 1-1.5" will take care of that lingering issue.

Nice tires Josh.

I'm also running the Toyo AT3s on the OE Long Travel 200. Just got back from a 700 mile round trip drive to our cabin near Glacier National Park and back, and have been off-roading them locally a fair bit too, doing some photo shoots. Very impressed so far. Went with the Toyo over the Falkens because they were 11 pounds lighter per corner in 275/70-18. That's a huge difference, and will seriously impact acceleration, braking, and ride quality.

Aired down off-road, they haven't failed to grip the mud, loose rock, or gravel they've been on so far. On the highway, they're slightly noisier than stock, but nothing intrusive. Still gaining confidence in the new suspension and everything else, but took a couple mountain pass turns at 100 MPH and they inspired solid confidence. No issues at all in the rain so far either.

Any chance you’re going to make some vids/more photos of your setup??

Thread reresection.... I'm having 5 Toyo ATIII's installed tomorrow at a tire shop near me.
I'm removing the spare so they don't have too. Anything else I should be aware of before leaving the keys?
Also, what is the wheel torque setting for the LX's?

Should be 97ft-lb.

I usually ask them not to rebuild the TPMS sensors which many shops do by default. IMO if they’ve been holding air this long they are better off without being messed with.

Might as well ask for road force balancing if they’ll do it for free.

Excellent points, thanks. Didn't even think of the TPMS sensors.

What wheel and tire size?

I'll be sporten a set of black 275 60 R20's .

I love mine. Stock size on my 08 LC. Not noisey at all.. looks great.. What are you guys running for pressures? My tire place put them at 33psi. They went with what the door sticker said. Seems soft and under deflated to me. I put them at 40psi.

Well we got a guy. Hopefully he will chime in.

I replaced a set of ATII's with III's. Really liked the AT IIs as they were quiet, good grip and lasted a long time. My third set of Toyo's I am sold on Toyo after having BFG's and Coopers

I got them a month ago and only snowed once, didnt have any traction issues, but not a big storm. IIIs are supposed to have better wet grip. I havent taken them off road either, but since I was very happy with the AT IIs I doubt I would be disappointed with these as the design improvements seemed pretty straight forward in the design if you read the Toyo web site

Romer, do you have the LT rated tire?
