first time poster- i sold this piggy a few years back, found her again left outside to fall apart and bought it back. she has been in my garage since then and i need to come to have a come to jesus moment..
to restore or not.... she is a 72 with a 77 2f engine and disc brakes, runs great. the PTO winch needs a little attention. Bad paint job- you can see the old blue and white scheme under the green.
putting aside the emotion. is there really a market for these anymore or is this a money pit?- i am out of touch and looks parts are even harder to come by.. thoughts????? where to start..

They're a money pit but you bought it back because something stirred you. It's a sickness we all have and there is no cure!

ugg. I thought that I might have to sell my rig a couple years ago...it made me sick for a week till I decided it was a stupid idea.....of course, if you are asking what we think you should do, I'm going to have to say, there is your answer.....in other words, if you are asking this, then you have not yet succumbed to the swine flu, and you should find someone who has to pass the torch to. and of course, with that being said, sadly, there is no real "market" for these old buckets, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are other, very ill individuals, who would seek an opportunity like this out. most of them are all right here in this very sub forum..... they are a labor of love/hate and can't be supported by nonchalance...I think you should keep it, but you'll have to commit. I never saw my rig as a financial investment other than having a reliable rig, but the sentimental value is going to be hard to put a number on. I ignored a $7400 wad of cash in my face once, laughed and said, "go find your own". and the rig was maybe worth 4 to any of us here- as I said, there is a psychosis associated with these old trucks...are you worthy of becoming a Knight of the Swine Trough?

I know you want to keep it, too; you've paid for it twice;)

Welcome to the club!

It's one thing to put some money into the wagon, just to drive and enjoy.

It's another thing to put ALOT of money into restoring it and try to sell it for a profit. Not going to hapen.

Many on here are pretty good at getting them going and fixing along the way, all the while, having fun driving it.

Good Luck in your decision.

there is no market for piggies, or a very small market that is for sure.

The 40's have much more of a following. I am selling mine now but will definetly lose money on it after all of the years of money I have put into it but I have had some good times and created great memories. It has not been used much and I need the money for school, so therefore I am selling it.

My whole thing is that a truck should be USED. My 80 series gets used often as a family camping vehicle. Therefore I am putting money into it. I don't expect to get it back. Most likely we will as a family abuse the crap out of it and have some great times.

For these reasons I am going to try and restore and put back together my piggy for as cheap as possible. What I love about it is that it is just so unique. You never see them. Most likely I will give it to a child to use in the future if they want it as I don't think it will be worth alot of money.

I remember seeing that one, by a school? parked by a garage in an ally? I stopped and asked you if you wanted to sell years ago, went by a few years later and it was gone.

I'll pm my # if you want to chat about fixing it or selling.

Awesome quote!
Either that, or you just could stomach seeing it left out for the elements to destroy it.

I salute you for saving the Piggy!

Do you have enough interest, and time, and $ to put her back "right"? If yes, do it! If no, find a good home for her...

Good luck!

I want to get her back on the road and i don;t think i ever be able to afford to restore her to a mint condition. i would love to get back on the road and maybe pass off to the kids some day. where to start.. looks like i am in the market for a tub frame for starters..

you need to make a list of all the bad things(repair items) and all the things that are ok. post it here to get some help with prioritisation, and then tackle it one item at a time
