This is beautiful...somebody make it for me (60 headlights on an 80)!

Resurrection time

Has anyone pursued this at all? I am thinking that either the fenders are glass and he is popping them out when needed or even stamping steel. Perhaps he has a system worked out to modify the fenders one off. I am really liking this and have a couple 80s sitting in front of the shop to experiment on.

I would buy those in a heart beat, lights and the grill. Excellent find Jose!!

Just curious to see if anyone on here has followed through on the wheels / hubcaps shown here...?

Actually, those wheels are 16s. I've been looking into this since the beginning of the summer. They are 16" GM rallye style wheels with 40 series hubcaps retrofitted to them. I finally found the wheels on Ebay for 270 a pair. Looks like I'm gonna get into debt soon...

elduderino315- just looked at these wheels on eBay. I know nothing about wheels to determine fit. Can you/others confirm that a wheel with the following specs will fit a '97 80 without modifications like caliper-grinding or spacers?

  • Backspacing (in) 4.000 in.
  • Hub Centric No
  • Lug Nut Seat Style Conical seat - 60 degree
  • Offset -12.00mm
  • Wheel Construction 2-piece
  • Wheel Diameter 16 in.
  • Wheel Material Steel
  • Wheel Width (in) 8.000 in.

Lots of aftermarket wheels won't fit over the hubs on an 80... I don't see a center hole measurement, but it is obviously important to know to verify that they will fit. From a very quick 'Mud search, it looks like you need a 106mm center hole minimum (research for yourself on the diameter... I won't guarantee that I'm right.)

That's the main issue. Its very hard to find a wheel with a large enough center bore. The wheels I have currently I had to have a machine shop hone out the center bore to fit.

Then you're losing the shank lug nut and wheel design. You'll be left using a conical seat lug nut that doesn't recess into the wheel leaving you with minimal thread purchase which is also some distance from the backing plate. This leads to leverage on the wheel stud. This results in the wheel studs starting to snap off....not safe.

The way to get around the lug nut issue is to use a newer style lug called an ET lug which reaches down into the wheel to get more threads from the stud. They look like this :

Beside the bold colors they look pretty sweet .
But one thing that stood out imho is how good skinny tires/wheels looks on 80

Thanks for the info, bryson. FYI for anyone interested, I just got word from Summit on the wheel in question:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wheel-Vinti..._Car_Truck_Wheels&hash=item5af52af467&vxp=mtr

....and it has a center hole measurement of 4.25" (or 107.95mm).

So does anyone foresee any problem with these wheels:
  • Backspacing (in) 4.000 in.
  • Hub Centric No
  • Lug Nut Seat Style Conical seat - 60 degree

Those look like winners to me. Make sure you get proper lug nuts too.

Just got a 60 series grill and headlight from the FedEx guy. . . Will start a build thread when I pull my front end apart! :D 1417556608847587115821.webp

Here is a sneak peek. I forsee lots of sheet metal work, wiring and bondo in my future. Not to mention finding a headlight bucket that is adjustable for aiming the bulbs! It's like my bumper was made for the round eyes look!

Here is a link to all of the custom 80's they have sold.

I actually contacted the website that sells those the other day to see if a conversion kit was available. From my understanding, he said that he doesn't sell part kits and makes each one for a vehicle on a case by case basis.
Here is what he said
"Because I produce it in conformity to a car one by one, I cannot sell it as
"parts".
If can keep a car, can undertake construction,; but ..."

I noticed some have smooth hoods above the grills, and some have raised edges on the hood and fenders around the lights. Maybe smooth if you keep flares on, and raised edges for flareless models?

I'll be doing the smooth style for simplicity sake. Plus the flares were ripped off as soon as I brought it home.
