Well, I got my wisdom teeth removed and the day after that directly headed up to Uwharrie National Forest to ride some trails with 15 of my friends. I thought I was going to be in much more pain with just having my teeth cut out, having no power steering, and the doctor's advice to not do any "strenuous activity" but surprisingly I was totally fine, and my arms aren't even sore! Guess I've buffed up some from last year. It was a great weekend and the troopy did great, most of the trails in 2-Low, and then lock the hubs for the hard stuff. One trail has definitely confirmed for me yet again that diff locks will be a very nice addition to the troopy in the future. I'll attach the video down below haha. As usual for a Land Cruiser, it drove up there, took all the offroad abuse, and drove back without skipping a beat.

The pictures and videos really don't do it justice for how steep some of the stuff is haha. Oh, yea also we were driving down some offroad trail, turned the corner and the entire hillside in front of us was in flames. All grabbed our water, coolers, shovels, shoes, anything that would help stop some of the forest fire while one of my buddies drove to get reception to call 911. We started stomping on it and trying to smother it, wish I would've had a go pro or something to have documented it but all I have are some photos after we had beat most of the fire. Took us about 20 minutes and another 20 for the fire dept to arrive. There was no reason anyone would've been out there, no campsite no anything, OTHER THAN a horse trail (with freshly burned horse poop) that went right through the center of the fire, my guess is someone riding just flicked a cig to the ground. Not every day you get to fight a forest fire haha.

Also ran into an awesome 40 among the thousands of jeeps

Nice. Drive it like you stole it.

Hope Dad has set up a Land Cruiser trust fund for you.

You are going to need it.
Anything that breaks sadly will be coming out of my pocket. Definitely not going to go back anytime soon until I have lockers, most likey will go with lunchbox lockers or the "aussie lokkas" as a cheap way to have them yet still being effective. Once those are in I'll be able to idle up all the stuff just like the fancy built jeeps were doing

Get some skid plates and rock sliders. Save that big ol hog's body on the trail.
Yes 100% for the rock sliders. Luckily I have all my skid plates for everything still with the troopy. Don’t plan on doing stuff like this much at all but if I ever do in the future will definitely save the troopy.
Plan on doing something like this in the future

What an emotional roller coaster update over the past few months.....glad to see its still taking abuse and smiling.

Is your 70 on the front page of beachandbarn.com? Maybe you already told everyone.
Yep! Met the owner on the beach got to talking and 10 minutes later I was set up to have the troopy in a photoshoot for whatever they wanted.

A few more pics from URE, honestly impressed the troopy has that much flex, thought it would've been much stiffer from the way it rides 😄. Also got my turbo taken apart to right before I reach the internals. It's honestly in pretty great condition (especially for $50). Just gotta make my own manifold, source oil lines, fittings, silicone elbows, etc. and then should be good to start the install! I've been PB Blastering the manifold bolts for the past month now, REALLY don't feel like stripping one-off in the head.

Trying to get any space I can for the cross-country trip, figured I had quite a bit of spare headroom so my dad and I fabbed up an upper storage compartment. It may not be the prettiest but any space we can get, we will definitely take!

Well, got the door, frame, etc in and got the door painted, swapped all the old stuff over to the new one, and it's still buggered. My guess is that the hinges are bent, causing the door to be off. If that isn't the problem... this is gonna go from annoying to just a massive crapshoot. On a better note, just about everything for my turbo (I think) is coming in this week and so I'll be able to start on that soon. (See bottom of post for turbo noise)

Decided to top it off with oil and give the turbo a little test run. Sounds pretty good. Also, the 3B may be running a TADDD bit rich, hadn't ever seen that much black smoke come out before but I'm not even gonna mess with it since the turbo will hopefully be on soon.

You're having more fun without th elockers. I have spartan lockers front and rear. I crawl over and through almost everything in uwharrie with almost no wheelspin. Really too easy. A rear locker and open front would make it more fun and challenging. The lunchbox type locker(lock right, spartan locker, aussie locker etc.) in combination with skinny tires work great in uwharrie after rain. I rode with some guys in almost new jeep gladiators with 37" tires and full manual lockers(ARB type). Those rigs are wide and over $45K. With diffs completely locked and the big wide tires they were pushing in the mud instead of turning and had great difficulty maneuvering between trees and rocks at some points. The lunchbox type locker does differentiate by allowing the outside wheel to spin faster in a turn. The narrower LC with smaller skinny tires and lunchbox lockers had much better steering, maneuverability, and control on the slick between obstacles.

Assuming you already tried adjusting the door?

Hello,

x2.

This applies regardless of whether your hinges are new or old.

The procedure is a bit tedious but it is worth the effort.

What happened to the left pillar?

Yea, it is more fun and ALOT more work, I at least and a rear locker at some point so I don't have to spend 30 minutes on one section of track that everyone else was able to do in 2 minutes (that's not an exaggeration haha) Also very glad the troopy is skinny, was quite easy to maneuver between stuff besides the lack of power steering.

No clue that was even a thing. I'll definitely try it out! Thank you once again.

What do you mean by the left pillar?

If all else fails don't be afraid to force/bend that window frame to fit.

Well, thanks to my dad's great thinking we have made a rear door table that will be helpful for cooking when I'm cross country! Both the overhead storage compartment and this have been made out of just scrap wood we have laying around. The cutouts in the wood are to be able to store whatever we want in the rear. I'm guessing they will be a helpful cupholder for the rear passengers.

Yeaaaa, not afraid just would feel horrible to do that to a brand new door. Guess it'll be the last resort

I’m a big fan of selectable lockers. Without lockers you can really beat stuff up. Lockers fix a lot of that problem.

arb
Harrop
Cable lock

all are pricey but are excellent choices. I wheeled a 55 on 35s without power steering or lockers. It’s was hard. Got some arbs and much easier.
