I communicated with JH hilux through Facebook messenger. Just a FYI as I’m not sure how responsive they may be over email.

Just to be clear the pin I got from eclipse was the same issue of soft material like the one from torfab.
Sounds good, if you find a reliable supply of good pins, please share

I've had a few blank pins that I used to grind down and play with and all of them wore a groove where the follower pin rode. It didn't worry me at the time because I was constantly pulling them out and adjusting plus the groove made it easier to see where it was riding. But once I found the perfect profile I was after I just took it down to my local metal shop and got it nitrided and it never left a mark on it since.

I had to remove material with a rotary tool around the diameter of the pin and also on the angle cut into the bottom in order to get the pin to seat correctly. I know the screwdriver trick pushing the follower pin in before seating the anaroid pin but this wasn’t my issue with the torfab pin. Another side note is about 2 months of having the pin installed a deep groove got worn into the pin. It’s not as hard as the material as the oem uses. Go figure.

In other words your better off throwing the torfab pin in the trash and getting a new pin that is going to withstand time. I got some from jh hilux out of Australia.
Did you mention that your pin wore down to Torfab? They seem like a stand up shop and I'd be curious to see what they said about it.

So, before I start modifying my stock aneroid pin, I have found a good machine shop that van make these pins with the correct hardness, stock ramp rate ect. After testing on my own vehicle, I may look into selling these pins since they are nearly impossible to find in North America. I do not have a price to make from them yet. My question for the group is what would stock aneroid pin be worth to you?
What would a modified (more aggressive ramp) be worth to you?

Just looking for feedback if this is worth pursuing on a larger scale.

Just get them to make blank pins so people can file them down to suit there exact needs as every vehicle requires a different profile to match there certain engine modifications and performance criteria for optimum compensation.

I've never seen the aneroid pins we sell wear down, these are the same pins sold in Japan and I order a batch at a time to make sure we can supply the US market with them. I'll contact my supplier in Japan to see if there's any issues with the batch? For the record, we don't make these but have been using them for over 5 years with zero issues of gouging or anything like that. Strange thing...

Good afternoon, just sent yall an email on some findings concerning the aneroid pin.

Got it, thanks for the research David. I'll respond, pins have been set as 0 stock on the site until we can get some answers from our supplier in Japan. I'm still using one in my 1HD-FT Troopy and I pulled mine out to inspect. I can't see any grooves with the naked eye, but was able to see some with some magnification. I'll continue to use it, but are you guys putting some lube on the pin when installing? I use assembly lube on all the ones we install here, just a light coating which might be why it's not very impacted?

I used diesel fuel on the pin before installing for lube.

I will get me a modified LDA rod here. price is not bad

Quick look at that pin and it's symmetrical/ concentric.
That limits tuning options as what ever way you turn it, its the same.
The OEM pin ramp is eccentric so you get a different profile for the small pin to follow as you turn the pin.

There's some sketches with dimensions way back in this thread that show the possible range of movement for the aneroid rod.

Filing or grinding and polishing a ground surface to a suitable level of smoothness is very difficult after they have been hardened.
If you are making something to be customised by the user, hardened before delivery will largely defeat this.

The pin looks almost identical to one from a Zexel VE pump that I have in pieces on my bench do I can use the boost compensator bits for my cruiser IP
If it's the same as what I have, there's a lot of room for improvement. I won't be using the Zexel pin I have.
mudgudgeon, can you tell me if the zexel pin is the same diameter as the denso one in the hdt? Sure look same same! Can buy them for 65 bucks if so, best ive seen around.

I was able to get a pin from Eclipse turbo recently. Have you guys tried giving them a call?

Not much variance in that... You either love it or hate it!
