Looks like the pressure regulator is hooked up to a VSV that switches vacuum to the manifold, not the throttle body EGR ports you have it routed to:

Maybe also worth verifying that the check valve is oriented the right direction.

I got that right. Going with what was said above maybe it’s not really needed and certainly not a cause of this issue

Pull that AFM and perform the system check outlined in the FSM. I know you had things re-soldered after you pulled the plug, but I replaced mine on good faith that it was a working used unit and it ended up being junk. It was acting exactly like yours in the video you posted.

I tried your suggestion this morning. Still the same.

Thanks

I’m starting the tear down for the OEM fuel pump, new MR2 regulator and such that should be landing this week. I also got a banjo fitting with a 6mm (1/4”) hose barb end I’m going to use from the regulator for return. My hardline has a tiny pinhole in it. It looks like it will work fine.

I may have a extra hard line if you need it.

Parts from @Onur hit the shop today.

I pulled the valve cover so I could get to the pulse-thing on the back of the fuel rail. May as well get all new parts on this thing so there is no question. I guess I pinched the valve cover gasket going in last time. Snapped it in 1/2. I have a call in to @cruiseroutfit to get one overnighted. 🤦‍♂️

Tomorrow I’ll pull the current fuel pickup and try to make the in-tank

That Aussie Desmog link provided this vacuum setup for the regulator. I copied it except I mounted it on the fender where the plug from the old smog plugs were. Added back my ported vacuum into the manifold.

I picked up two new O2 sensors. I peeked into the partially melted loom that feeds the down range sensor and found this mess. I am not sure why they have the shielded wire tapped into the white wire but looking at the wire diagram I think it’s supposed to be. Either way I taped up the exposed wires and left it as it was.

Classic Cruisers sent me this clean electric pump setup. My biggest question is if it will somehow talk to my fuel gauge. I know I can tap the L-B wire for switched 12v worst case. Crossing fingers the rest of the wiring will let the fuel gauge talk.

@cruiseroutfit got me my valve cover gasket early. I put a little FIGP on it to keep it from popping out while I wiggled the damn cover in place.

I put the pump in place with the banjo fitting suggested above. I tried to use braided line but the fitting would not make it over the metal. Likely the wrong pressure fitting so I just went with EFI rated hose.

I just peeled the power wire out of the harness and plugged in the new harness into the OddBall harness. I’m not sure it’s going to be properly calibrated (fuel gauge) but I know it works.

In the end, this latest round of issues was likely the PowerSurge sending 65# of pressure into that old 3FE regulator and it just could not handle it. That’s my best guess.

The only issue I had was the relay I installed for the fuel pump was not staying on. I installed a fuel pressure gauge and was immediately able to see the pressure dropping and coming back up. Turned out it was a bad ground on the relay (thanks for that suggestion @RocketCityCrzrs)

First drive went swimmingly well. No issues. No leaks. Runs strong.......not Warthog Mosley Cop Motor strong but close. The high flow head let’s me pull Horsepower through redline RPMs

3050 RPM has me just over 80. I was able to eek out 87 mph. Not bad.
