Virginia state inspection is such a ****ing scam.

Failed for play in hubs which Ryan checked somewhat recently and a minor rack leak which all 100s have…clearly a safety issue.

Where should I take it to get a legitimate reinspection?

Meant to follow up on this. I took it to Shirley Duke Shell Center in ALX based on reviews. The inspector was great and very knowledgeable/competent. I told her what the other shop said and she came back shaking her head. Rack was dry and zero hub play. She said she’s seen similar shadiness with Wiygul inspections before.

I take the work trucks to pretty much the same place so when the inspection is due I tell the girl " hey the truck needs an inspection sticker" when I get something else done. I actually make a point to keep them maintained because if they don't work right they don't make money and the same shop works on them so they know they are good to go .
Last year I had one that needed a inspection and they had hired a new girl on the counter and she said they could look at it sometime after the service call it was there for for the inspection. I stopped her said said she needs to pay attention to what I said. I said it needs a new inspection sticker not that it needed an inspection.
Just find a legit shop that you can trust and go with them. Many shops use the inspection as a gateway to get unneeded service work because they sure are not making money off the $25 inspection for vehicles under 26K lbs.
I got hit with a "bad wheel bearing" on a 2003 chevy pickup inspection once and I knew it was good because we had just gotten new tires and a alignment the week before. I asked for the old part and he "didn't have it anymore" I told him flat out to go get a steak dinner with the money he made off the ticket because I was never brining a vehicle back to him and I have not been back we used to drop 9-11K a year in maintenance work on the trucks to to him.

Glad that MD is one and done...unfortunately it lets a lot of POS's run around on the roads that really shouldn't be. Same here though, you just never know who's out to get a buck for nothing.

On the flip side, when I picked up my RS6 several years ago, I took it up to my exhaust shop proactively to get a quote to put cats in since the PO removed them. Guy was a big VW and Audi fan, hooked me up with the shop next door for the inspection while I waited for 15 minutes (should take at least an hour!), inspector said he didn't see any safety issues without the cats...I never asked for the "light version" of the inspection, but he got a very generous tip for the day.

Same goes for just about everything though...my in-laws have a 100 year old house and had a leaky toilet flange upstairs. Hired a younger guy to come out that was referred from other neighbors and he said they needed to tear up the whole floor. Got another quote from a long time company in town and it was fixed in an hour.

Did not know these exist

Pretty damn [bleeping] cool

I bet the call with the insurance company was a real hoot.

It’s a jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand.
So I guess the driver either passed out when it almost rolled on the hill, or whiskey throttled it so hard that the accelerator stuck?!? o_O o_O

As Vinny Barbarino would say, “whut”?

What are you doing with Baofeng parts?

Well??? Let’s see??? Ummmm. Geeeeee. I guess, maybe, I just got one so that I could learn how to program it so I could program your Baofengs back before you knew how to do it. Yep. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it! I would never own one of those cheap radios (at least that I would admit to). So there Bob. It’s all your fault that I have (ooops I mean don’t have) any radios other than my public safety grade Motorolas radios.
Ok. I confess. I have 4 of them. But don’t tell anyone!!!!!! It’s our secret! Shhhhhhhh 🤫

what model would you tell me to get then even though you would never actual have one LOL

Well, I have no idea what you are talking about 😉

The Baofeng UV-5R is the most popular and has all of the necessary features and is relatively inexpensive. They are easy to program via the front panel (takes a while) or using the Chirp software (free download) a cable is required - Amazon has them. They will require a factory reset (press and hold PTT, Monitor & VFO buttons, turn on radio, display will say “factory “) before programming. I can program them for you or I can send you the frequency file if you want to do it yourself.
I would get at least a pair. They come in handy for a variety of events/convoys when trying to stay connected with the better half.

These radios are fantastic for the price of admission. Think Amazon has a twin pack with several upgraded parts. link below
