The motor is at my house!! :D

It cleared customs on Monday and was released. I then had a guy pick it up for me in Long Beach and bring it up to Idaho. Wednesday after work I went over to my buddies house in Idaho and got the truck. Before I brought it home though I had to take it for a drive! And I have to say, I am very impressed with this engine, in short it kicks ass hard! :D

Well it certainly looks IMPRESSIVE! :D

Ah, motivation, nice!
What is the second, high mount intercooler for?

The motor has a dual intercooler set up. The small top mount is actually the 1st in the two-stage set up. The air takes a long path before it is forced into the motor.

I have got some video of the engine I will post soon. :D

Gonna be sweet!!! I'd love to put that engine in my 4Runner. :D

pick up, one in shaved sump and one in valve cover.

that's why the external oil tank ..

Any pic of the turbo arrangement .. ?

Hey David....

There is a picture of the turbo above and you can see some more in the videos. Turbo is a custom Garret T3 and is cooled/lubed by the new oil system. What kind of pictures you want to see!?

by the time you decide to move that engine to the new frame I would like to see the turbo / SC arrangement ..

Did you have any idea on boost numbers .?

That looks and sounds wicked man! I can't wait to see what the motor looks like without that crappy body hiding the artwork:D

looks really nice, guess there is no hood requirement for import...

is the shaved sump just for axle clearance or ground clearance? Just curious why the connector and hose hanging off the bottom getting smacked.

Thats gonna be a fun motor to have in a cruiser. It looks and sounds really good.

I am sure you must be pretty happy/excited about getting it.

You ever hear that GMC Jimmy in that Peterbilt truck called Pissed Off Pete? That's what your SD33-T sounds like. Sounds funky man, a real screamer.

Oh and BTW, that Bundy sticker's your good luck charm. See if you can find a spot for it on the Cruiser.

The whole idea behind the shaved sump was so that the engine would never starve of oil. Since I was going to be using the engine in a rock crawler I wanted to be able to run the motor at any angle (even upside down) and not worry about it starving for oil. I also wanted an oiling system that was more efficient than stock.

What I have now is what the builder came up with. There is a pickup in the valve cover and in the shaved sump. On top of this my oil pump supplies not only the engine but also the super charger and the turbo.

Clearance under the oil pan was just a bonus.

The remote oiling system was probably the toughest thing to set up on the motor. The oil pump is external and gear driven. My builder came up with a way to drive it off the injection pump and not mess with the IP, ie timing, ect. He fabricated a billet housing, gears and it uses a chain like a timing chain. The housing is full of oil. At first fire up oil pressure was not where he wanted it so he machined up a new drive gear changing the number of teeth and oil pressure is where he wanted it. I spoke to him recently about oil pressure since this is a new set up to me that I am not familiar with. As per his recommendation I need to let the motor warm up to operating temps before it is rev'ed much. When the oil is thick (cold) it will put oil pressure as high as 100psi when rev'ed. As soon as it is warm oil pressure maxes out at 75-80psi. In the 1500-2500rpm range oil pressure sits at 50-70psi. I am also running 20W50 oil now and for winter will run 15W40.

Anyways here are some pics of the bling'in oil system...

I have driven the truck around my neighborhood now a few times. Keep meaning to take video of that but the battery is always dead in my camera. Got to say though I love this engine. It is pretty frigging awesome. Boost with zero lag and it feels like it has the power of a v8!

I am stoked!

I do believe we maxed boost out at around 20psi. Over boosting this motor is one way to kill it. I do have a boost controller (in cab) that is not set up yet. I do not have a boost gauge on the motor yet or an EGT gauge. Ports are there though and ready to hook that stuff up.

Here are a few more pics of the motor showing turbo and super charger. The turbo as mentioned is a Garret T3 but we had it built to our specs, ie boost at low rpm's. From what I can tell so far it seems to be boosting at about 1200rpms. The S/C boosts from idle. Driving it I notice the best power band is in the 1500-2500rpm range but it will pull awesome from under 1,000 too! :D

I have posted this picture before but you can see the path of the air into the motor in this picture. It is; air filter to turbo, turbo to top mount I/C, top mount to S/C, S/C to front mount I/C, front mount to intake! :grinpimp:

Last bit, I am pretty amazed so far at how cool things on this motor seem to run. I only have a coolant temp gauge right now but I have not seen it crack 190. I can touch the oil cooler after a drive and it is warm but not scolding hot. I can grab any of the I/C hoses even the one right next to the turbo and they are cool to the touch. I am itching to put an EGT gauge and also an oil temp gauge on it to really see what it is doing. I would also really like to know what kind of difference there is with the electric fans on or off.

Just had the truck warmed up nicely and drove it around the property. You can touch the turbo and also the dump, while hot they are nowhere near as hot as I would expect. I know, I know...a drive around the yard is not going to put much load on things but still, just saying! Perhaps all the ceramic coating done is paying off!? :D

Also noticed by looking closely at the engine, the drive gear assembly for the oil pump is not just full of oil, it is lubed just like the rest of the engine via the custom oiling system. That is pretty awesome!
