Tires are Yokohama 7.00R15's, pretty dern close to OE. No lift.

Mike, I cannot wait to see your hubcaps on my BLACK wheels either!

lol...I guess you are going back to original black! :D

This will be a one beautiful rig once completed...hell. it looks great right now

What about these coker military tires. the largest over all diameter with 15" is 30. Does any one have a source for a larger size for a 15" rim?

Good to know in Oregon. Thanks.

Mike, check my ARMY TIRE thread in the 25 section. I did a lot or research before deciding to go with the Yokos seen above. There are another set of Yokos that are more aggressive, 720 or 721??? I think, also 700R15, but harder to find. The buggy people use them a lot as front wheels on the dunes.

I also found some original RK3 Dunlops (these are what our cruisers came with when new) and started a thread trying to find potential, and while a bunch of us want them, I'm afraid that I can't do much with what I can put together :frown: If you want more info, or might want to follow up your big success with the your hubcaps, by importing these original tires to go with the caps, send me a PM, and I'll give you as much info as I can

Not sure how I missed this thread. Picture is of the old 61 lit with the sulfur yellow soft top I plan on painting my early soft top FJ40. Really curious to see this one completed. Didn't read the whole thread but are you planning on matching the factory color on a canvas top? The cruiser does look great keep up the good work. I would be interested how you came up with a formula for the sulfur color.

Edit: Just spend a little time reading thru the thread. I would really like the information on your paint mix. I also like the green that SouthBostonFJ linked to in post #10. Been looking for a color for my 79. The stock US import color from the around the late seventies early eighties was darker than I like but color of the 81 pictured looks great. Now to see if I can get information on that color since it doesn't appear a color the US market got.

Kind of off-subject/on-subject, but I remember that thread and I recall the $$$ amount it would cost to get the RK3 reproduced. One thought that came to mind was if these just came stock on cruisers or were there other makes & models that got these new from the factory? Maybe we could get more interest from another make/model fgroup forum... ie - more people with money involved to reach the $50k it would have required in orders to get the ball rolling again. Sorry to hi-jack and love your cruiser. It is looking awesome:cheers:

OK Fellas, got me "Eastwood" rim painting kit, essentially it is a version of the lampshade a dog wears after a surgical procedure so I can paint my wheels with the rubber on. Cost me $100 to mount and balance the tires, so I wanna paint my wheels with rubber on. Perhaps I will go BACK to BLACK this weekend ;-)

Living in the Past.
I bought a softop from Alex like Destin's, OD Green. These colors all look awesome together. One of my next things to do is start restoring my top frame and FST doors. YES, I found a set of FST doors!!!!

As for the color, I used an old color chart and pictures to do a visual match, there is no PPG paint code to go on. This color, Sulfur Yellow, seems to have "died". No original FJ's to match off of, and nothing in any paint companies computer systems... I can help you get my color when you are ready.

Love the tire talk guys, it was talk like this and the efforts of My Wife said no FJ that got me my Yoko's!

Hey guys,
What color should my gas tank be? I see D did his body color, is that correct or pewter or??? Need to get that sorted next....

I believe before 68 the tank was kind of a silver color. May have been sooner but my 65 FJ45 is still the silver color. Let me do a little searching and see what I have find My 61 may have been body color.

Living in the Past,
Thanks for searching that out. I know D did body color, but doing the pewter/silver if correct would be easier as I can spray that. But I am not looking to recreate the wheel fiasco!

OK Guys. Pretty kick ass night. I have everything to do my seats except the welting for the rear panels, Shane is sending that out now, so I thought I would get started on my seats. I think I set a record BTW. This is what I did in 2 hours! The large seat bottom was a pain. All of the others I did solo, but the large bottom required my wife and young son to stand on the seat frame so I could screw down the covers. I am super happy with the results, only one issue, a minor nick in the vinyl I am sure I did. Unfortunately it is in a bad spot tho, the outside edge of the drivers seat bottom, so the highest area for wear.

Check em' out! I chose to use the "raw" bolts as I like the contrast personally, not sure if "correct". Again, cell phone, sorry.

Cant mount em up permanently since I dont have the tool box cover painted and no gas tank, so I will have to wait to sit in her and make engine noises!

Whatcha Think? I have covered seats before (Mustang and Ghia). Shanes were of a very high quality. Not once was I ever woried a seam under stress would fail or "stretch" the sewing machine holes. These are some **** good seat covers!

First off great resto. you have going!!! I can't believe I haven't seen this before... I very much look foward to your progress, and I'd love to match your paint for one of my '62 FJ40s

but to answer your question, the gas tank should be the body color. I am fairly sure they were like this through '65 or so. All three of my 1962 FJ40's had body colored gas tanks in them.

Keep up the good work

ClemsonCruiser,
Thanks for the compliment and answer on the gas tank. Funny enough I am ready to run the engine at this point so getting the tank done has moved up the list. Only thing remaining for engine is to mount up my old exhaust (until I get new) and finalize my oil filter. Still waiting on a clamp for my OE oil filter before I tighten all the fittings. Then add gas and start.

ClemsonCruiser and Living in the past, As I progress and you get a feel for the color (I will take it outside this weekend as I want to see the seats and heater in the sun, will lay the OD Green soft top ofer it too) I can hook your PPG guy up with my PPG guy. I used DCC single stage to shoot it.

Oh, and I bolted the seats in so I could butt test them. Pretty comfy, but man that steering wheel is close. I had to resist the urge to say "10-4 good buddy" as I was all steering wheel.

Jack-Holes

Guys,
Updates... Got my wheels back to black but waiting to mount them until I bleed my brakes....and waiting on new bleeders from wilwood to do that.

Got a question tho.

Ordered an OEM jack, jack handles, jack holder for tool box and jack clips for mounting jack handles. The jack clips, however, do not match my rig, so I am assuming they are off a later year FJ? The clips I got have both clips on a single mount with only two holes, whereas my tub has 4 diagonal holes for I am guessing individual clips to mount up.

If these are wrong year clips I can go back and try to find the right one.
