Ok, now we need the porcupine incident story!

LMAO..You’re the only one to catch that. 🤣🤣🤣

Thought that was some of my best work. I really worked hard on that scenario. Domineering ladies w/sticks, stuffed porcupine taxidermy in the boudoir and the subsequent combo resulting in an “incident”. You’re only as good as your imagination.

Sky's the limit. 😆👈🏻

Every King deserves a Kings Chamber. It’s good to be king.

I don’t recall the exact conversation that shifted the concept and nudged the design momentum in a different direction. The day I unboxed the twin bed frame was probably the catalyst for change. For the 1st ten years I slept on a cot followed by a 2nd hand Captains bunk (twin) complete with a 4” foam mattress. I have no idea why, other than I somehow equated a miserable nights sleep with a hunting camp right of passage.

The Meade Hall is still the Meade Hall and now it has a fitting place for the old man of the manner. The feasting table will stay in the “Great Hall” close to the wood burner 😎 with easy access to the kitchen. Small makeover coming soon.

CB and I worked on a kitchen reconfig this past winter. There’s one-off cabinetry from CB’ shop on the drawing board making its way from concept to reality.

I’m currently cleaning up and moving no longer needed tools, scrap and scaffolding out to the hall. I reclaimed the tool room yesterday and laid down the foundation for the “Regimental Mess”. Pic coming soon.

I’m currently the only hired help I could round up on short notice, so progress is a little slow…

Pic: 1st iteration of Kings chamber. TBD

The dusty hordes of yard sale escapees are finding permanent residence in the “Hall”.

As I described sometime back, the “Hall” was taking an eclectic turn for better or worse and would, at least in conjecture, reflect/display pieces unworthy of a proper suburban domicile. Some of these “priceless relics” have been in the “Chunga collection” since the early 1980’s. Some of them are new and I thought looked the part. Disclaimer: No endangered species were harmed by me or my associates during the creation of the Captains Lounge 😎.

Borrowing heavily on the notion of a Regimental Mess meets a nouveaux hunting lodge. I’m turning the former tool room (small bedroom) into a lounge area of sorts. Inspired by Rudyard Kipling sipping a single malt with Lewis Wetzel:

Pics- standing in the kitchen area looking directly into the “lounge”. Don’t mind the dust, I just removed all of the tools/boxes/leftovers and haven’t cleaned the room yet. I staged this so I could remember how I wanted it to go back together (or not).

This is the first iteration and some tweaking is in order.

The Serengeti, the tusks, the leather shield…all too familiar. I grew up in East Africa, in Kenya which shares the Serengeti national park with Tanzania, Kenya’s neighbor to the south. Our I-Pads in the day was to get into Landcruisers and tour the national parks on the weekends. I have had the privilege of witnessing lioness kills spitting distance from a HJ45 driver’s side fender. We chased many times along the Wildabeast migrations. We witnessed the lightening speeds intersect between cheetah and gazelle. Of all, the most dangerous is a Hippo in mating season. The most under estimated is the Hyena. Worst chills is facing a black mamba running (without legs) at you. We drove cruisers if you wanted to go in and come out alive. Many a fool did not make it, they drove Land Rovers. Nice (masculine) addition to the Meade Hall.

That is a great story, well worth the telling.. I’m certain I’ll need to listen to more of it one of these days.

I spent some time in and around Mombasa circa 1980. Some of my earliest collection dates back to that trip. A very memorable event for a wide eyed country kid. I drew duty and missed the trip into Tanzania/Kilimanjaro.

In fact, a great deal of the inspiration for the Captains Lounge, came from a bar somewhere near the Ft Jesus Museum. Unfortunately, after several unchecked rounds of Tusker, I misplaced the name but not the memory. 😉

Ha! I left Kenya in 1990. We were there at the same time! Tanzania and Kilimanjaro are great! I hate zoos. A lion’s roaming area is over 100 square miles. Not fake grass in 2500SF space with USDA sub prime cuts. ! I digress. Carry on your excellent prose! If the chance happens to pilgrimage at Meade Hall, a round of Tusker beer it will be. You can buy it in some niche spirit places. Were you in the navy?

Flooring down in the “indoor facility”.

That’s big news for the Meade Hall. 1st of its kind. Septic and cistern should be in this summer. So for now, the facility won’t be for using, it’ll just be for looking at…😁

Soon, I’ll be headed over to the big ticket store to look for a new “throne”. It’s crazy how you have to buy one based on looks alone without being able to test drive one first.

I believe Sir Kipling would approve of the lounge. I have met one of his direct descendants, online in another forum. A very nice fellow and proud of his heritage.

That my friend is a great story. 🏆

I was hooked as a youngster/semi adult.

I agree with the others, The Lounge turned out super. Very cool that you amassed much of that decor in Africa.

Only some of the current items. Ms Revenge and my mother claimed title to a few things. And, I lost some to the great yard sale scourge of 2019-2024. 😉

A little late on arrival but still a productive afternoon.

I was able to acquire a second set of hands today. CB was available and unfettered by any significant domestic chores or obligations. Scaffolding was disassembled and stacked in prep for the move back to its rightful owner. We spent the better part of an hour hauling/burning scraps before turning our attention to storing any salvageable material, equipment and “That might come in handy some day” bits and pieces. Thinking an upgraded hunting stand or two...🤔

The 10x12 kick-out (mirror image of the Lounge) was piled to the brim with cabin furniture, a couple of rugs, long lost tools, and a pile of soon to be opened, Ms Revenge approved necessities. Separated the chaff from the wheat and parted ways with the old, unserviceable and the unrecognizable.

Gave the room a quick once over removing most of dust from 2024. I had “Murphy’s Oil Soap” in the hopper, but went with the Bona sprayer for ease of application on the floors. Thumbs up for the traditional oak flooring. Put down years ago and has aged gracefully despite the abuse and neglect..👍🏻

Unboxed the twin bed I had originally purchased as an upgrade over my plywood and foam captains bed. Hands down made the right call relegating that miniature bunk to the guest room. Some assembly required. I’ll uncork the memory foam mattress tomorrow and see how it feels Friday after the requisite inflation period. Temporarily hung some former crawl space refugees on the wall(s). Just kicking the can until I get the right “vibe”..😎

Plan for tomorrow is to give the Lounge and laundry room a similar once over.

The bad news in all this is, the main room is now the official overflow repository. It’ll take two days worth of effort to reclaim the space. :meh:

“All cleaning is based on dirt”

Chunga Tzu- The art of the Cleanse

Six solid hours, one pair of hands. Took to the bit early today in an effort to remove the last vestiges of dirt, dust and cobwebs from the recently liberated living space. 3 1/2 rooms in total. Claiming victory and doing a hot lap in celebration.

Delivered the future laundry/closet/storage room from obscurity. The dresser will move as soon as I can persuade CB to sign another manual labor contract.

Painting the walls and maybe the ceiling, color TBD. 5” maple flooring. It’s held up well despite being hidden for the past two years 🙄. May add a light in the closet area too.

Progress pics to prove the hyperbole..

The lounge spent the better part of a year and a half as an impromptu tool room. Staged it on Monday pre-cleaning just because. Some tweaking/changes coming soon. 😎

Floors still look pretty good. Windows not so much.

Decluttered, dusted and cleaned the “Chamber” yesterday 😉.

Looking from the entrance between the kitchen and the new addition. While working yesterday the sun hit the west wall just right and I realized I have some touch up painting to do. It’s on the list.

The plan of attack.

Tools, left overs, boxes, gypsy treasure, basement refugees and survivors of the great yard sale wars are now collected in the great room.

Pic below doesn’t scratch the surface on the amount of refuse. My initial estimate of a two day mop up operation is woefully inadequate. Rethinking it now.

The Lil’ cabin will take on a support role. The loft will become an impromptu storage area. Larger tools and totes. The main cabin has a storage area as well. Perfect residence for well marked essentials. Storage bld is on the blueprints but won’t happen this year. The aluminum pavilion as I call it, does a good job of holding the larger wheeled tools. I need a dry storage capability for day to day ops. The laundry room will eventually house a small area for house hold every day needs - hammer, screws, scissors, chain saw 👈🏻.
