Dude hate to burst ya bubble, but that foam carpet underlay is not a great noise barrier. What you really want is automotive jute padding..

Just trying to help.. Truck looks awesome BTW!!

It's main purpose for me is padding, and it does help a little even with only having the front section of carpet in. Even with half the interior still out, it was so much quieter today that it threw off my shifting a little bit at first. :D

Machinist, you got to go to that thread bro!!! Made my day seeing that there actually are good people left out there somewhere, and I'm not even the recipient!!!

Hey machinist, I've been watching your progress.. I dig what your doing! Glad to see another young'n like myself get bit by the bug ;) You have inspired me and soon I'll have my own project thread on here! thanks! your rig looks great

I just saw the thread a few minutes ago... I didn't realize that many people followed my thread! Made my day seeing that! :D I've got to get to school right now (running a little late this morning), but I'll post in that thread and send him a pm this afternoon.

Sasquatch, I'm happy I'm inspiring you to work on you truck, and yeah, I've defiantly been bit by the bug!

I've been doing bits and pieces here and there, I've got a (semi) nice cruiser and I know it ;) I'm really just trying not to muff anything up! It's nice to see another one like myself! Lets me know I'm not alone in this, ih8mud is def the best website I have ever come across, it has been instrumental in the growth and care of my cruiser.. Up next is my long planned front bumper rock sliders and a winch... That quiet crap caught my eye.. I just remember it being REALL EXPENSIVE the last time I looked into it... But I'm going to look again! Keep up the good work bra!

I can't believe how much your getting done on this! I got bit doing the HG in 7th grade, now I'm just finishing my senior year and i thought i had done a lot. keep it up, this one's fun to watch:popcorn:

Until recently when people started saying that I've been doing a lot to my truck so far, I have thought that I haven't really done much to it. To be honest, I haven't done any really difficult or expense work or mods, just a lot of cleaning and a little modernizing. I don't think I have much more than $350-400 into this project yet. (other than registration and smog junk..... California......)

BTW, Class Of 2012 FTW! The Doomed Class Graduates! :flipoff2: (I call it doomed because it was Friday the 13 when I graduated 8th grade :p)

Haha me too! I graduated 8th grade on Friday the 13th hoped a plane to Colorado and broke my leg skiing the next day! Lol

Class of 2012!!! So there are 3 of us then? Haha forever known as the resident wiper snappers!!

Another relatively young member reporting in here. (21)

I OME'd and re-built my motor in High School. Enjoy it because you have time to do stuff. College is time consuming!

I also appreciate this forum. Without it I might not have invested so much time in my Cruiser!

Keep up the good work Machinist.

any new progress on your quarter panels? How is that 1/2" MDF alittle thick? I was thinking of using 1/4" as I'm afraid 1/2" is way too thick...

as for the latches I was thinking of using these Southco Latches they have plenty of latch options and MANY different styles.. you can find them on ebay too... I believe another member used them on their wagon for this exact purpose! But anywho, I'm subscribed now  can't wait to see what you do!

what are you doing for connecting the panel to the wagon? I was browsing southco and found these Panel Fasteners I think they might not be the right thing for these panels but if your OEM panels are anything like mine.. these things are popping off everywhere and could use replacing....

I was thinking about using these, but they seem to be pretty expensive. 1/4" MDF will work great, I just happened to buy 1/2" before I knew exactly what I needed.

Snye Used 1/4" with his project here.

ha, we're working inversely. now that I've finally got a handle on the function side of things, i'm looking at the fun kind of work that doesn't sit the rig in the garage for weeks (i say as I'm planning a 2fe:doh:)
2012!!

haha yea, I'm trying to get some big things crossed off my list this weekend... tranny/engine tune up... but anyway back to this, how is the carpet fitting back over the wheel wells again after you've added the quite crap!

The carpet will fit over the QuietCrap with no problem at all. It starts to become a little tougher when you add carpet insulation like I am. Over all though, its not fitting all that bad... then again I've only done the front piece so far (transmission tunnel and driver/passenger footwells), so I can't really say for sure. Hopefully I can have it almost done by the weekend.

But now, right out of the blue, my Dad tells me that we might be going to Bear Valley Ski Resort to try to get at least one day of riding in this season, so I don't know how much I'm going to get done.

I think you deserve a good break ;) your doing some good work man!

Break? Bah, I don't need a break, I need more time to work on it! I should have had this project done weeks ago! Should be a good trip If we do go though, to bad I can't bring the FJ this time. :frown:

Having the interior out for so long starts to make you go crazy... and I'm sure the fumes from the asphalt (quietcrap) when my truck sits in the sun all morning don't help either! :hillbilly:

Yea heard that, my friends are trying to get me to go camping all weekend... My rig isn't ready yet... Gotta do a flush on the Trans and put in an aux Trans cooler (your lucky to have a manual), not to mention spark plugs a new cap and rotor and spark plug wires... That's gonna be some work... I'll be sure to document it for my thread I'm starting too... I've been going over designs for these rear panels in my head.... How are you going to round the edges? Sand paper? Lol that'll be some work... I guess I'll pick up some MDF and make some cuts as well.... See where that takes me and all!
