I ordered this thermometer off amazon.com . One thing to keep in mind, if the angle of the face of the LCD screen is not aimed up to your face while sitting in the seat, you will have a hard time making out the readout of the numbers. Especially with polarized sunglasses. I had mine mounted in place of the choke pull knob and couldn't read it at all. i moved it to the lower left windshield, just resting there. works much better there to see. put the sensor below and behind the driver headlight.

Good to know, maybe I'll have to machine an aluminum mount with a 45* angle to mount it to. But that's not going to happen for a while cause the sound deadening material ate up all my spending money.:bang:

I'm excited to see how these turn out. My stock covers are in pretty decent shape, but I like the idea of making them a little more sturdy with some extra storage. Have you considered doing the tailgate?

I looked on eBay for some latches like mine, but didn't find any. Get on and do a search for "compression latches" or "lift and turn" latches and see if you think any of those would work for you.

Also, if you're moving the gas vent you can get hose by the foot at o'reilly or autozone that fits perfect.

I don't want to do the tailgate really, I like being able to jump up from the ground and not worry about punching through a panel, and I don't need more storage space that desperately.

Looks like I'll have to do a little searching for those latches then, thanks for the search suggestions. As for the fuel hoses, the local auto parts store is where I'll be going. I found the sizes I'd need on the WagonGear site, so that's helpful.

If it wasn't raining I'd be working on it right now! ... but its okay,... we need the rain...

Good point. 1/2" MDF may not stand up to the abuse on the tailgate.

One of Kevin's WagonGear tailgate storage panels can easily take it. One of my best mods was the tailgate storage

Runnung Out Of Gas, F*** Yeah! ....... :(

On my way back from school about a half hour ago I noticed that my truck was idling a bit rough at a light, but didn't think much of it, I figured I'd take a look after I got home. When the light changed, I got moving fine, and turned onto Almaden Expressway and just as I was getting to the overpass for Capitol Expressway it started to sputter out. At first it caught me off guard, but I quickly realized that I was out of gas. I knew that I was running on empty, but with no money, there was nothing I could do about it. I had estimated that it would run dry either today, or tomorrow, I was just hoping that I would make it home before it did!

In hindsight though, almost three weeks on one tank of gas ain't bad at all!

Side Note: I just found out through Facebook that another friend of mine that drove past, went and got his moto fuel can and brought me 10 gallons, but by the time he got there I had already gone! I guess I've got some better friends than I thought!:flipoff2:

hehe. How many miles were on the tank?

I ran mine down the furthest I ever have recently. Put in over 22 gallons. Pretty sure these tanks hold 23.8 gallons. I'm not sure where "empty" actually is on the gauge.

Empty seemed to be a little above where it is when it starts up, that's why I thought I had a little more. ;p Not sure how many miles I had on it, but I do about 10-20 a day on weekdays, a little more on Fridays, and occasionally 30-65 on weekends.

I'll post up how much it takes in when I go fill it up within the hour.

:D That was you stalled out? Sorry I didn't stop but was working at the time (company vehicle).

We gotta chat one of these days. PM me if you find time to swing by ToyConnection on a weekday after 5pm. :D

Well, I've got a full tank now, and I usually just go home and sleep after CCOC, so I could stop by anytime. Let me know what day you prefer, and I'll drop by.

EDIT: By chance, when you drove past, were you driving a white and black hilux with a camper shell?

Center Console Upgrade!

This afternoon I was browsing the forums when I remembered that when we bought my Dad's 71' International Harvester Scout, the PO included an aftermarket center console made for a Jeep. The center is a horrible match for the Scout, so my Dad told me I could go ahead and see if it would fit in my 60.

After struggling to mark the holes for the screws, I eventually got it mounted. I never noticed how nice it was to have an armrest while driving it is extremely comfortable!!!!! And cheap plastic faux-vinyl covering it almost matches the vinyl on the door cards.

Maybe this should go in the "under $50" thread..... lol
[edit] scratch that, just looked on EBAY, and this same console is selling for $75. I don't recommend buying it because its pretty cheaply made, and I don't think the vinyl will last very long without tearing, and it is a little too big.

Hey man your doing so much progress on your rig nice job BTW.keep on posting your work i just might copy that MDF panel thing of yours.

John:D

I'm just kidding Shane (norcalborn).

Im looking forward to getting the QuietCrap I ordered, should be here in the next few days. I'm also going to make a new rear section of carpet with the same stuff I'm going to cover the panels with. Probably won't be any real updates until I get all that stuff though.

All good, actually a Scion Rickshaw would look pretty sweet IMHO. (Not using Wimpy for the miles I put on every week, no way, corporate ride for this guy.)

Machinist, usually Thursday or Friday afternoons work best since that's usually the days I am doing office work the last hour of my day. PM me about 4 hours beforehand so I can be sure I don't end up with any late meetings in the East Bay that I have to book out early for.

~John, you should actually buy templates from him or go with Kevin's panels. Support the group mentality and all that. Maybe even trade off some labor?

After a very long day of pulling up carpet, and tearing and scrubbing jute off my floor pan, the truck is almost ready for the QuietCrap which should be here in the next few days. When I pulled the drivers side kick panel and carpet I was surprised to find a tangle of wires that seemed to go nowhere; one of them was attached to the battery terminal with an inline fuse, that ended with tape covering the end, didn't go anywhere!!! There was also a mess of speaker cable running from under the dash clear across the drivers footwell headed for the back speakers. Whoever did this car's sound system really did a hack job.

And If anyone remembers when I said a few posts back that when I took out the rear carpet I got a pound of sand, well, that wasn't the end of that story. I took the mat out of my garage and unrolled it again and started to shake it; before too long my driveway looked like the sahara, and in the end I ended up with what felt like 5-10 pounds. All of that after I already got a pound out initially!

I want to thank my friend and his little brother for coming over and helping with the clean up, it would have taken a few days without them.

This project is going to be put on hold for a few days for a camping trip with friends at Memorial County Park near Pescadaro State Beach. Were going to leave tuesday afternoon, and won't be back until thursday night. I just hope that that will give me enough time to get back home and finish the interior.

On a side note, can anyone tell me how I should mount the evaporator after relocating it? I understand cutting the brace and getting longer fuel lines, but how do I mount it on the other side of the fuel filler neck?

Nice work. Very clean. By the time I took my carpet out in front I had lost some motivation and just vacuumed it as best I could.

As far as the evaporator goes, you can zip tie it to the fill down spout. Or, you can do what I did since I couldn't get a good angle on the zip tie option. I wrapped the vent in leftover carpet, zip tied the carpet to it and stuffed it back in the rear body post above the tail light. Shoved it back as far and as tight as I could. Felt real solid back there.

I have a big day ahead of me tomorrow: galley plug fix, valve adjustment and Trollhole install.

Good luck with that, post some pics when your done, I still have to do the galley plug, I think I'm going to just make a retaining tab though instead of tapping. :meh: And I'm sure my truck could use a valve adjustment and possibly timing.
