Haha thats what me and my dad did a few days back.. what is the Quiet Crap? is it like a spray or something? educate me on this.. might be something i want to do.

If you want to clean up that carpet really good.. get out the pressure washer and spray them down with a little carpet cleaner.. works great. also get some oxy spray, ( even carpet cleaner would work.) and scrub the heck out of those seats.. makes them look like new. look on my thread =REDLEAF=.. has some more details.

QuietCrap is sound deadening, its a rubber type material with an aluminum sheet on top that reduces vibration and heat. Quietcrap land cruiser sound deadener

I think black looks best with the silver.... heck, I think black steelies make almost any truck look good! :flipoff2:

Powerwashing is what I have planned for the carpet that I am going to keep, and as for the seats, I've already scrubbed the living crap out of them, go read the first few pages of this thread.

Bottle of Boylan Root Beer says a spray bottle of SpotShot, a Scrub Brush, and 10 minutes of scrubbing that rear carpet will freshen right up.

~I spilled Teriyaki Sauce on my rear mat coming home from Costco last week so cleaned it all out and you can't even tell. Try to avoid using a spray washer on carpeting that's probably older than you ;) . It tends to fall apart as the backing starts to crack and tufts of fiber come off. Also, as it goes through a wet/dry cycle it can shrink up shorter if you leave it in the sun too long.

:) I'll be trying to swing by ToyConnection after work tomorrow (Friday 2/24) if you're back by then.

Wish I would have checked this thread sooner! I got back on Thursday afternoon, so I totally would have been able to meet up at ToyConnection.:frown:

When I did the rest of the interior I decided that I would just leave the back as is, I figured that it would just get dirty anyway. One of the last steps of my current interior project will be to cut a new piece of cargo area carpet, so the stain isn't going to be a problem anymore.

I just got my order of QuietCrap yesterday and started on it today, and its a lot more time consuming than I thought it was going to be. I only got half of the cargo area done in 1.5-2 hours.

So I made a little more progress on the QuietCrap install today, and although it may not be perfect, I figure its nearly impossible to do it wrong as long as the surface is clean and its pressed down well.
Halfway through the first sheet I did today, the roller that came with the deadener broke, so I ended up using the handle for everything else.

I reinstalled the bare minimums to allow me to drive to school tomorrow: drivers seat, floor mat to cover speaker wires, and tape to keep them away from the pedals. Can't wait to see what my friends say about it!:hillbilly:

This stuff is going to take forever to lay down with my perfectionist mentality....

Oh, and while I worked on the QuietCrap, my Dad did the real work and replaced the dried out and leaky power steering return lines. Hopefully that solves leaking issue! Thanks Dad!

While I'm at it I might as well post a few pics I grabbed with my GoPro on the camping trip.

My FJ finally got a nickname on this trip as well,... "Metal-Slug". My friend's little brother that rode with me on the trip made it up for a walkie-talkie call-sign, and I guess its fitting with the performance of the 2F.... It also happens to be the title of my all time favorite arcade game, so I'm gonna keep it.
It could be worse, my friend's red MKII Golf GTI got the oh so desirable callsign of "Red-Rocket"! :D

(yes I am aware that the watermark has the wrong year.... I exported directly to Flickr, and forgot to change the settings)

Glad to have met ya today, sorry about being distracted over getting my clutch dialed in time to make it home for dinner. Left ya a pm about keys, etc.

Guys, FWIW Machinist's a good guy, definitely smart and definitely darned lucky to have what he has for his daily driver. I got misty-eyed for about a minute looking it over with a big-grin reminiscing over old-blue before I remembered what goes with 60-Series ownership and how nice my 4Runner actually is. ;) For me I guess that would be hind-sight since I was a little older than him when I first got mine. ~I still don't miss 10mpg's though. :D

~Machinist, you need to get together with some of the guys who still have their 60's for a local run or get together, it's always a good time.

If you still have quiet crap to lay down, use a tennis ball, works really well.

That's a great idea! I have a bucket full of them that I've picked up around the school tennis courts that I just give to my dog, so this should be perfect. :D

Any updates? I wanted to see how the rear panels worked out and see the progress with the carpet.

Unfortunately I haven't had as much time to work on it lately as I'd like, and every time I start to get going on it I find something else I need to take care of first. I'm working on the QuietCrap right now, but I found mud in the bottom of my rear quarter panels so I need to clean that out and make sure there isn't any rust before I can continue with the quietcrap. After I do get the quietcrap on the quarter panels i'll do the front section of the floor pan and the transmision tunnel, then I have to do the door skins, once thats done I can get back to doing the carpet and MDF panels.

Oh, and I also have to cut and extend the speaker wires that one of the previous owners installed like a moron. There are speaker cables running across the center of the drivers footwell. They didn't even bother to tuck them away, they come straight down from the dash and into the footwell and along the side to the back where they do the same thing across the cargo area!!! How stupid are people these days that they consider that quality work!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Its turning out to be more work than I anticapated.:o

Anyone know how to remove the handles that roll up the windows?

To remove the window cranks there is a special tool. Or just a small blade screwdriver works. Look down the shaft of the crank and on boths sides you'll see the ends of a spring clip. Just push the screwdriver blade straight until each side of the clip slides out. Piece of advice, that sucker is gonna launch! The clip has alot of spring to it. I've lost a few of them in my shop. Once both sides are unclipped, then just pull the crank handle straight off. Don't be afraid to puch the door panel in to see, don't bugger up the round plastic base if you can help it.

QuietCrap Done! (except doors)

I got a lot done this weekend on the QuietCrap project, and I have the cuts to prove it (this s***s sharp!). I lost track after about the first 15 little cuts; its funny how theres a bit of blood staining a small section of the quietcrap on the rear DS quarter. It was one of those cuts that you don't notice when it actually happens; I saw the red and thought to my self, "how did red paint get on that piece of quietcrap, I just installed it".

Today I finished installing the quietcrap on the floor of my 60, got the front section of carpet insulation cut and placed, and got the front carpet back in, and yesterday I did both rear quarter panels. I still have to finish laying out the carpet padding and re-install the middle section of carpet and the rear seat before it starts to get back to normal, from which point I can concentrate on the MDF cargo panels and new rear carpet again.

I was happy to discover that what I thought was mud in my rear quarter was just a bit of dust and dirt that got moistened from the previous days rain; (it was dry when I checked it on Saturday). So I cleaned it all out and put on the sound deadening. I also managed to reroute the speaker cables without extending them, although I barely had enough wire in some places...

I love how I can knock on the rear quarters and hear a dull thud instead of the metallic "thwang" I get from the doors I haven't done yet.

Now for the pics:

With all of that reflective aluminum in there it started to feel like I was working in an easy bake oven. And todays unusually warm weather only made it worse! :p

Can't wait to see your plan for the our toyota cheap stock wheel well covers. Any ideas to improve? I wish I could find something. Mine don't fit quite right with the insulation over them. And you really need the added sound deadening there too.
Jeff

It must be really dry where you live. is that foam insulation you're puttin down? IMO I thought that is what the quietcrap is for? If you get that foam wet, I don't think it will dry very well. jfnall has a good point, I put something like quiet crap over my wheel wells and the vinyl wheel cover is a bit off too. I just sort of ignored that. I have to admit, it looks really good, and I like what you're doing to the truck.

I hadn't thought about those wheel well covers not fitting...... I didn't want to have to try to make replacements from the carpet I bought, but if I have to.....
