Wow. It's *almost* worth getting a FB account so I can post something there...

Again, almost all of the text in that description is my writing, from my original For Sale document in 2017.

Well I am proud to say that I am now the new owner of this beautiful 87 Yota! I flew in to Albuquerque,NM from west Texas yesterday morning and drove her back to Texas. It was an incredible 7hr drive home and enjoyed every minute of it.
I did notice a few things that I plan to investigate. The Autometer showed a water temp of 210-220 the entire time but the factory temp gauge was in the middle and barely moved. I’m not sure what temp thermostat is in this engine but wouldn’t think it should run this hot. More to come after I do some troubleshooting.
The only other issue was the a/c; it worked great for several hours but then the air flow/pressure began to drop and even on the highest setting, minimal air pressure could be felt. I decided to shut it off for an hour and cruise with the windows down and then turned it back on and all was right again.
Lastly, the previous owner mentioned that occasionally the parking brake light would randomly come on while driving but it didn’t happen my entire drive until I rolled into my home town after driving 7hrs. I noticed the light came on when I shifted to second or fourth gear and went away when I shifted towards third or fifth. Only thing I can gather is when I am pulling the shifter towards the rear, I must be pulling on a wire that is causing the light to come on.
I will say that the power was lacking. It struggled to get up to 70mph and would only go faster than that if I was going downhill or down wind. I own a FJ60 so not familiar with these 22RE engines but not sure if that is normal.
I did receive all the documentation from all the previous work from @KLF and @yotadude520 so that will be extremely helpful as I begin to learn everything there is to know about this truck.
So stoked to be the new owner and one funny note about this truck. I have been wanting this truck after I originally read this thread back before Covid and had mentioned to Will that if he ever wanted to sell the truck to please give me the first opportunity. Well, Will being the upstanding person he is, he messaged me back in April 2020 and offered to sell it to me. I had to graciously decline as it was Covid times and was unsure about the future. 6 years later and now that very same truck is sitting in my driveway waiting for some new adventures.

I’m glad she’s back in the mud family and promise to take extremely good care of her.

The factory temp gauge never worked right the entire time I owned that truck. I did swap the sender once but it didn't help, so it must be the gauge. The Autometer gauge is a mechanical one, very accurate. It was a huge PITA to install, due to the large bulb at the end and the thin fragile capillary tube that can't be cut or disconnected.

I don't remember the thermostat temp, but I believe it is the lower of the two available.

There are no brake wires near the shifter. Check the fluid level in the reservoir. The spring in the e-brake handle may be getting weak.

There was no AC in the truck when I sold it, that was Will's project. I will say when I bought it in 2001, it had the factory R12 system that worked amazing, it would make the windows sweat on a humid day. Unfortunately it developed a leak that I was never able to fix, so I yanked it all out.

I had plans and most of the parts to install OBA with a York, which is why there is an air pressure gauge in the dash panel, but not hooked up.

Does the remote locking system still work?

I am not a fan of the roll bar and lights, but it's not my truck anymore. Congrats, and best of luck. Please reach out if you have any questions. I miss that truck, for sure.

I miss it too! Glad to see it's in good hands again though and back in the Mud family.

I seem to remember that it was a 190 degree thermostat, when I owned it I only saw it get above 190 degrees twice - once was going up the Salt River Canyon in the summer and the other time was when the alternator belt broke and I got stranded on the highway.

On the A/C front - I can't remember if I had a bad A/C amplifier or a bad low pressure switch. I just know I hardwired the compressor using a cotter pin on the A/C plug. This causes the compressor to engage (and stay engaged) while the A/C button is pressed. This typically isn't a problem but when the compressor isn't cycling the evaporator can get frozen. I just got in the habit of turning off the A/C button every now and again when I noticed it wasn't blowing as hard. When I sold it I disclosed this issue and it's crazy to think we're going on 5 years and 4 different owners and it hasn't been addressed!

That sounds about right for 2,366 cc's of raging hamster power giving it its all!

Especially lifted ~3", running on 34" tires. Diffs are regeared to 4.88's, but that doesn't do anything for the physics of spinning larger tires, which takes more energy.

Even despite a full rebuild with slightly over pistons, it's a tired engine. I was actually starting to make plans to swap it out for a 1uz 4.0 V8, but just decided to send it to retirement and enjoy the 3ur 5.7 in my 200 series instead.

I'll give it a little more credit, I routinely got the old gal to 90 and above (going downhill of course)

i seriously cringe every time someone says they are driving one of these over 80mph. 😂

or im just jealous that my hilux would only do 80 if it fell out of an airplane
