Are you sure it is still valid? I do not know KSs regs, but other states that I have held permits from, they became invalid after I was no longer a resident ...

^^I couldn't find anything that explicitly states that it is still valid or not, so I sent a note to the KS Attorney General's office :)

Chatham Co Sheriff said I could use it until it expires and then I have to get a new one in NC. I checked on that before I moved.

My CCL instructor said my KS CCL is valid until it expires, but you can not renew out of state.

I feel like I have been down this path before, but can't find concrete proof anywhere now that you say the above, Sam :)

Sounds like KS - or at least your former county - is more progressive than many states. Hell, when I move in a few months in SC, I have 10 days (not clear if it is calendar or business days) to inform the State before my permit becomes invalid ....

Sawed off .22 rifle is a serious WMSD (Weapon of Mass Squirrel Destruction)!

Got a response today - you where right - almost wish I didn't ask, though LOL:

Mr. Buster,

We will mail you a letter extending your Kansas CCHL for 90 days. After 90 days, your Kansas license will be surrendered in our system due to move to another state. Should you move back to Kansas, you will be eligible for reinstatement until your Kansas license expires. All of this will be explained in the letter. Thanks for notifying us of your move.

Ouch ....better take the first class you can get in ;)

Not a huge law change but good to be informed:

House Bill 562 limits the background checks sheriffs can conduct on those applying for a pistol purchase permit, the paperwork needed to buy a handgun for those who don't have a concealed handgun permit. Under the bill, sheriffs will be allowed to look at only five years of a person's history when deciding if they meet the "good moral character" provisions laid out for obtaining a permit to buy a handgun. As passed, the bill did not include controversial provisions that would have eliminated the state's pistol purchase permit system entirely.

A favor for several on here that are more in the "Know" regarding AR market. My goal is .223/5.56 in about the 900-1200 range.

Local to me is this Barnes Patrolman. Price seems a bit high to me but, again, I'm new to AR.

Thought please: ARMSLIST - For Sale: Barnes Precision BPM-15 CQB Patrolman .223 Wylde

(Having a little trouble uploading pic for some reason)

New it is ~$1300. Not sure of condition, but if it is perfect, it is probably worth $800-$1K. You could say it has another $50-$100 worth of stuff put on it (red dot and light). Most of the items listed are either swap outs or where stock, but they don't add value.

You will have to consider the cost of your scope - that red dot needs to go.

Are you wanting something for light hunting, or for fun on the range for distance? If for light hunting, you would be "ok" out to 500 meters max even with a hot custom round on this 16" .223.

I am interested in getting into distance shooting, but I think I would start with the Ruger Precision if that was my objective. Then I would continue to do a LOT of research on scopes :)

Thanks Jamie... I was hoping to get your thoughts on this. The purpose for the AR is to kill off as many paper zombies as possible until the real SHTF. Included in my motive is the political climate has calmed down enough for prices to have stabilized a bit, and yet you can sort of sense trouble ahead.

The paper zombies will begin at 100 yards (yep ... That's 2 zeros, not 3) but if time and opportunity allow I would like to move farther out.

Rice - You would have a good time with that gun, then :) 16" is a good length - - 14.5 is louder than I like, personally.

Stainless barrel would be a $400 upgrade to a "normal" AR that you might be able to grab for $650, so all-in that gun would be real nice, built, etc.

If I was being picky, I would say that I would enjoy a lighter keymod hand guard vs all the crap he has on the front of that thing, and the Magpul STR stock vs the MOE.

Here are some comparisons:

ARMSLIST - For Sale: Daniel Defense - M4 V11

ARMSLIST - For Sale/Trade: Custom AR-15 *Parts list included*

Thanks again, Jamie, for the feedback and the research. I really like the 15" rail on the DD M4. I'm much happier with my support hand farther forward since I have ridiculously long arms and, you're right, all the other junk on the BPM like front pistol grip serves me no purpose.

Although he said firm on the price I can at least try bringing it down, let him keep his red dot and 200 lumen light, and ask if he can toss in some ammo.

I hate to talk bad about an NC based company but I'd have to bold that "for the money" part talking about Del-Ton. They're in the bottom 1/3rd. (Del-ton, Bushmaster, Palmetto State, DPMS, etc.) for that $800-$1000 range you can get into the middle 1/3rd that is bet your life on reliable. (Colt, BCM, Daniel Defense). Top 1/3rd I'd call it would be competition/specialty.

Hard to beat a Colt that is as close to military issue as a civillan can easily buy for $850...
Colt LE 6920 at G and R Tactical

or $725 if you want to add your own stock and handguard..
Colt LE6920 OEM2 at G and R Tactical

To add to what Sean said:

You could add a STR or CTR Magpul stock (or even the Daniel Defense).

And one of these:

MCSR V2 Rail System

~$1K for a new Colt - not bad.

You could change to other hand guards, but would go with a hand guard that is 1.75" or bigger inside, so you could put one of these partially in it if you had to:
