I recently checked a box on my bucket list. In the early 1960s my dad had a couple Winchester Model 61s in .22 Magnum. They were only made for 4 years, 1960-63. He took me out many times hunting ground squirrels with them. The outcome of hitting one of them with a .22WMR 40 grain hollowpoint was spectacular. Unfortunately he sold the rifles before I could end up with one. I found this one recently and it shoots just like I remember from close to 60 years ago.

I purchased a government surplus Remington 40-XB last month at the CMP. She completed final assembly in 1964. Still a tack driver, but at some point her stock was cut down to add a Freeland adjustable butt stock. It was probably done to support a very small framed individual which resulted in the stock being shorter than my preference.

Fast forward ... I stumbled on an ebay auction for NOS (new old stock) stock for a Remington 40-X or 40-XB. The opening bid was what I thought it was worth, so I watched and there were no bids. So in the last hour, I bid the minimum and won. The stock arrived today and I was excited to check fit/installation.

The following are comparison pictures with the original stock installed and the NOS stock.

Picked up the new S&W Bodyguard 2.0 a few weeks ago to supplement my P365 X-Macro daily carry. Man, this thing fits my big hands so well to be such a small gun. I forget I have it on some days.....

I am in the same boat, huge hands. I can palm a basketball huge. I was so surprised when my wife's Kimber Micro9 fit my hand so well. My pinky resides under the mag but I get a firm grip and have no problems putting lead where I want it to go. So I got one for myself :)

According to Washington Gun Law, it is improved communication between FBI background checks and ATF that is allowing for improved approval times. The application goes to both agencies at the same time and as soon as the background check is done it goes to the ATF and the approval happens very quickly. If a person was willing to spend an extra $200, one could apply as an individual, get the really quick approval and then add the suppressor to their trust.

6 days…including the weekend…from individual eform 4 submitted to approval.

gorgeous ! Does that freeland adj stock have a damper? I was looking at something like that for a shotgun at one time.

It has a stiff rubber on the end plate so officially it could be claimed to provide dampening. However, reading between the lines leads me to project that it might not meet your expectations for dampening because the recoil from your shotgun will be transferred almost completely to your shoulder; before the end plate rubber would contribute to dampening.

Some of the stock Freeland components are still being manufactured, such as the following

Good luck in finding what you are seeking in dampening.

Possible tangent for consideration are shooting jackets. The competition jacket that I have has padding for the butt stock. For small bore shooting, it helps isolate the rifle from the shooters breathing and pumping heart. For a shot gun, the padding would help dampen the recoil from the shooters shoulder.
To illustrate, something like this ebay listing

Please accept apology for being so long winded

It was a Gracoil damper. I sold that shotgun, so not moving forward. Looked like what you were showing above a little bit, but as I go back and look at it, not the same at all :)

Got a special gift from a team I’ve been training-working with. Table legs made from M1s, very cool thing if you are into it. Details on the lower photo for those special Christmas presents.

That's COOL!

I sure hope those are new commercial stocks. I'd hate to see that made out of USGI originals.

According to the paperwork with it, the stocks came from a lot of 60K stocks that were never assembled. The gov auctioned them off.

:crybaby: I wonder if they have any whole ones left?

I'm assuming you know about the CMP already?
Yup. They have seen a fair amount of my money. Their "new" stocks are commercial-manufacture by, I believe, Boyds.

I meant whole stocks, not ones made into tables. Perhaps you thought whole rifles.

On my last trip to the CMP (Anniston store and store at the Talladega range store) in September, there were barrels of used M1 stocks to select from. New walnut stocks are available too, and I recall them being under $200. These new stocks might be new old stock or new-new. They have not received coats of linseed oil so my guess is they are new-new.

CMP's new stocks are commercial-manufacture. The thought of cutting up NOS USGI stocks makes my eyes water.

Yes. I figured you were looking for the various grades they sell of complete M1's. I didn't delve into their site recently as the last time I checked, it was already at least 10 years out of date in appearance (I think they had an "ask jeeves" search bar). I figured if anyone had a line on surplus parts leftover from 70+ years ago bathed in cosmoline, etc it would be in their warehouses.

They used to sell parts ~15 years ago. Not so much now. They use everything they have for re-builds. I used to get Lake City .30 caliber M2 ball from them and I bought a few auction offerings. The Rack and Service Grade stuff never excited me. They auction all the good stuff.
