Got some weather strip from JC Whit. today for the inside and outside top edge of the doors. The window channel and the molding that goes on the doors. They no longer carry the molding that goes on the outside of tailgate. Here's a couple pic's of the belted weather strips with the stainless trim. The one with the wiper blade (Zornff) suggested using this on the outer edge.

channel rubber holding the tailgate window

:bounce:just got home and there was a phone message from Wefco....about $ 110 to fab tooling to make the rubber extrusion for the channel rubber holding the tailgate window.........then about 2 $ per foot..minimum 25 ft:hhmm: need to stash away about 7 feet, anyone else interested in going with this option?

Lou

I'm in and can paypal you, question does anybody know is the door window channel the same? If not, I'll cover the cost for the mold to have these produced. Lou do you have a sample of the door window channel to compare it?

I have some I can access. I will go measure tomorrow perhaps.

I will have to pull a window tomorrow if I can on the 75 (daylight provided).

I did do a quick in the dark provisional on the window channel of a 7/71 which is similar. I have to double check tomorrow but like marshalls it was 3/16 wide on the inside but looked about 1/2 inch deep (?). Big thing is that the window channel has a ~1/4 wipe on one side (so that it would brush up against the outer felt and restrain water flow is suppose.) Not a bad feature I think. Would be nice on the tailgate as well.

On the 71 window channel: interior width 3/16" osd 1/4", Inside h (of the interior facing section - top edge stubbed like the tg pc) ~1/2", inside H (of the exterior facing section) 3/8" folding out into a 3/8" wipe sweep...so that looking at the TG profile you would have an additional curve (like the top of an S...or turn this S on 90 degrees CW for a passnger side).

On the 75 (which remains to be accurately measured) instead of a 3/8" sweepcurved down, it has (it appears) a 1/4" downward sharp angle more like the top section of the number 1 (to the outside).

Maybe I can get some photos tomorow as well.

In short the TG channel would work for the doors I think...but one or the other sweeps would be nice I think.

window channel rubber

re: window channel rubber you might check out posts #195 to 199 on this thread......the ones from JC Whitney look a lot different and don't have the molded corner as the originals did BUT they worked very well:bounce:

from wefco.......100 bucks for tooling and 1.50 a foot if the order is a 100 minimum order; costs go up the smaller the amount and minimum is 25 ft at about 2$ a foot at that length...I will need about 7 ft for my stash;

Lou...talking about the window channel...the glass run here...like your tailgate glass channel...glass run. :)

Eric.......the glass run I got from JC Whitney was what I was refering to........things get a bit screwy when we have different names for the same part:lol:.the original Toyota glass channel rubber has a molded corner on the DS and the PS on the back upper angle; the JC Whintney does not have it but it worked well.......it was worth it not to have the window rattling against the bare metal no matter how it looked.....actually I was pretty pleased with the appearence;)

body to door seals

LUKE111.....have experience with both the JCWhitney and the SOR body to door seals and they both work well...later pigs 78/79 I have seen did NOT have the rubber seal vulcanized/glued to the welting.......maybe in an effort to save costs by Toyota....... at first the doors were hard to close but with an over night set and some adjustment of a couple of hinges outwards they hold very well...prefer the SOR rubber but for the price:hhmm:........JC Whitney's worked very well........it is just that IMO the round rubber part that SOR offers is a more efficient seal......waiting to hear back from wefco:cheers:

Keep us posted if the window channel rubber is the same for the doors as for the tailgate? I may well be in too.

Charles, the window channel on the doors and the tailgate window rubber channels are very different.....wefco has some that are very close to the original window channels but with the ones available from JC whitney ........and at a reasonable price .......IMO we might be trying to reinvent the wheel:hhmm:

Lou, perhaps I was mistaken, but I thought luke111 was talking about the same thing as the tailgate window pc you were looking to have made except for the doors. See attached.

The explanation of the above is 7/70- blurry but to the right you see the outside extension/wipe.
Middle shot:7/75 with the wipe extension broken off (and two windows here installed backwards)
Last shot Pssgr door image of wipe and how it differs from the 7/70. As stated two of my doors have the wipe reversed in installation from the other two. But on the 7/70 the wipe was always to the outside edge of the door.

Anyway, they are similar to your tailgate pc but for the whipe and perhaps the size some.

So sorry if I have mucked it up more. I was just following in series with the Wefco TG window channel rubber revelation.

lower body to tailgate seal

Eric, Luke; I used the excess from the body to door rubber I got from JC Whitney<there was enough left over from the doors> to seal the rear body frame to tailgate.........see post 183 of this thread.......thought it was a decent substitute till John at Slocruisers can copy the original I sent him.HTH:cheers:

OK, fellow knights......... this is what am planning on doing if there is enough interest; go ahead and have the tooling made.......spread the cost amongst us.........100$ divided by ? how many of us are interested.....then place an order for 100 ft at 1.50 $ a ft.........total will be 250$ not including shipping; please let me know so I can proceed HTH:cheers:

Lou
P.S. Inge will have hers at no cost, could not have made it happen w/o her graciously sending the channel rubber:)
