The dude started death wobbling something fierce the other day, I suspected wheel bearings because it died down when I pressed the brakes, but I put the wheels in the air and when I shake them the steering box is the only thing with any play/clunk. Redhead time?

I stock rebuilt 80 boxes....

I found out that pass front caliper was seized, replaced it and it drove like a dream with minimal wobble for a little while but now it’s back with a vengeance, worse than ever. Shook everything with front end off the ground and it’s all tight except the box.

I’d love an 80 box @cruisermatt but I’ve been told it’s an involved fab project and right now I only have the tools in the drawer in the back, I’m gonna have to find a trapezoid pattern box

What year/month is your truck?

The 80 box bolts onto a post 6(ish)/85 fj60 frame all the way through the 62 run. The early 60s had the non-square pattern, not the newer ones.

I installed an 80 box on my ‘85 FJ60. We had to swap the pitman arm and then trim the fender for it to clear, besides that completely bolt on.

Edited my post, it’s been a long day, but yea I’m an 84 and need the box that is apparently very hard to find. Could take mine off and send it to be rebuilt but I’d rather eat a core charge and be able to drive around a little bit in the mean time vs being high and dry

Yeah your box is the same offset pattern as my 1984. I remember they were the same pattern when I was at your place right after buying mine.

Let me know what you end up doing.

Just posted a wanted ad, I’m sure I’ll be flooded with potential replacement boxes any minute 🤞🏼

Oops, I guess I was right the first time and early box is square later is rectangle. Either way, I hopefully have a lead on one from Safari classics
