Rick, did you have much trouble removing your hinge pins? I'm hoping to be able to do mine before long, but expect to have to fight with painted-on hinge pins.
Danny - I sprayed them with PB the day before. The hardest part is the initial starting of getting the pins to move up. I first started with a punch, but couldn't get a good hit on it, due to the hinge pins being longer than the hinges and the awkwardness of their location. It would just slip off the end of the pins. Then I took a cold chisel, put the flat side on the bottom of the hinge pin, holding the other end level with the bottom of the pin, I used my ball-peen and whacked the other flat side near the pin. This initially drove the hinge pin up to the bottom of the hinge, then took a longer bolt and used it like a punch. Just a few whacks, and the pins came loose. Note, being that I didn't loosen up the hardtop and move the windshield forward, I wasn't able to totally remove the upper pins. I knew that before I started, hence the blue painters tape.
Advice: For reinstalling the hinge pins, I used the same cold chisel method to hammer the pins back down. Using this method I only scratched the paint on the pins and minimized marks on the door trim. I'm not sure how others have done this, but that is how I did it.
I'm glad to have that done, and what a difference it makes on the door swings and tightening them up.
