When I was a kid, there was an old lady a few houses away. In the back of a top cupboard there was like a 10 year old bag of wonder bread - it looked/smelled fine but the chickens wouldn't eat it.

Yep, @orangefj45 is putting it back together, albeit with new parts. I guess it explains the heavy shaving on both the fill & drain plugs, eh. That '76 unit will go on the shelf as the back-up.

Fortunately Georg only had to refresh the '77 transmission and transfer case, so that one will get installed with they return.

Thanks to @orangefj45 both my transmission & transfer case units have arrived back to Georgia, looking all kinds of gooder!!!!

Let's just hope I can reverse the removal process, and install without any left over parts and pieces.

Congratulations. Good luck with install. When I installed my four speed from a 12/79 40 into my 76, I was hoping for a very smooth top plate gear shift. What I ended up with was a satisfactory “feel”. It’s amazing at how different the shifting feels between the 4 speeds. Wonder if George @orangefj45 has a point of view on this.

Alright, started the install last night. New pilot bearing:

...resurfaced flywheel with new bolts & thread sealant torqued to 60 ft/lbs, cleaned with break cleaner:

....new Aisin clutch pack with new bolts & thread locker torqued to 20 ft/lbs:

...new clutch arm, pins, and pressed on throw out bearing....ready to be installed today:

I hear if you smoke a couple extra racks of ribs a few buddies will randomly show up to help with stabbing that transmission!

Alright, I had to phone a friend.....a friend with a lift and a better tranny jack. None the less, my 40 is back in action.

A Huge 'Thank You!' goes to @orangefj45 for his craftsmanship! Let me just say, I can not believe how quiet a properly built Transmission could be!!!! Goodness sakes, what a difference in feedback from the rebuilt unit.

As always, first class. Add a rattle can cover over the taped shifter cane hole. Better water tight option than tape
