Damn those are nice. I may be interested down the line as I just got through the PITA of removing the tub side upper hinges and reinstalling when putting in the brass bushings.

Again nice work.

ballpark retail price should be a max of $150. This should be in line with other available chromed or stainless pieces. If I can get a couple of parts made for less than I can knock the overall price down a bit too. I can flat rate these too so shipping CONUS would be around $12.

A set will be going to Cruise Moab for the raffle too. I would love to accompany them, but can't. I ordered steel cut today and have to order more parts and hardware tomorrow.

so would you make a kit that or something where you could buy enough for 2 doors (soft or hard) so you would not have to change them ever?

you mention in line with other available hinges - note that these hinges look stock.. yours are close but not quite there

not to be picky but could you get the little bump in the door part of the hinge - I would jump at a set that looked stock with that upgrade

That's a major intention of this. Bolt on one set of A-pillar halves and then buy however many sets of door halves for however many door sets you want to use.

I thought about that, but it would add to the complexity of building them. I will try to figure out a way to do it, but can't make any promises.

Just welded these up:

I hope this is a good thing to show, I thought I might show my welds for any doubters. I haven't cleaned them yet for priming. There are no pits, just a little slag from the oil coated steel.

Things are going better the more I build of these. I just did a couple of sets today to send out for samples and the Cruise Moab raffle.

The buddy who I'm bartering shop space from is a metallurgist and was impressed. That was humbling.

Very cool design

Are you familiar with the OEM Toyota 'quick off' FJ40 door hinge design? I've got a few pairs of them here I'm hoarding for my own personal projects but I'd be happy to post some pics. They are hard to come by and I do get calls for them from time to time... glad to have an option to point them towards.

Like these? I like the way they can't slide on the post when closed- but do not need a nut. Easy on easy off for sure. I'm planning on making a set like this.

Pics stolen from JohnnyC's 1 week rebuild thread-

kurt I got a set of these just laying around and like you keeping them... I was under the impression they were not strong enough to handle the hard doors... what do you think?

I need an easy way to take my doors on and off.. I cant stand the door pins.

I feel the same way as far as not being strong enough for hard doors. If anyone were to lean on the door while open the top part of the hinge will bend. Have a FJ25 soft top with bent hinges. This was with the soft top doors which are even lighter than the later FJ40 soft top doors. I have a set or two of soft top hinges myself:rolleyes: Been hoarding them for about twenty years.:bounce:

I too wouldn't be comfortable with them on hard doors, I was just referencing the interest for them. Besides the upper half loop possibly bending they would likely wear out pretty quick with a hard door and regular use given they don't use a bushing.

welds look nice ...good job
im building 1/2 doors and love what your doing
